The Old Pond in Port Edward has all the facilities, nature and is positioned in such a spot providing unlimited long term potential to a typical camper.
We would find it really problematic to endorse this resort, as certain radical corrections is necessitated to visit this resort again, provided that I could convince my family to consider such an option. My experiences at this resort were not pleasurable and we were one of at least 3 families that left early.

We were awakened by residents having a good party, vomiting on our tent and loud music at four oclock in the morning. The smell of the unique green South African tobacco were also fully recognizable, not sure who were enjoying themselves but it was very close to our site. Management did apologise but the lack of consequence management will not change behaviour.

Day visitors enters at a nominal fee of R30, this put strain on the hot water system lessening the lessening of enjoying a nice hot shower, also limiting the use of the Lapa facilities on site. As a positive point, amenities are cleaned continuously.

Sites are approximately the size of a double garage but make sure that should you wish to camp here that you do have a long extension cord.

Campers are not anti-party, they also enjoy live, respect others but demand a similar approach from all those around them. Vacationers pay for their holidays and if they take pleasure in their stay, they will always come back, on a regular basis.

To the management of this resort:
Install discipline.
Increase your day visitors rate.
Put a cap on the number of day visitors allowed
Do not allow visitors to sleep in cars
Consequence management for those not following rules

This park..no to me.

Thanks Lourens, it is one of the camps we had considered to go to in May. Would you say the problems were mostly caused by too many day visitors or the park being full over the holiday period? Do you think it will be better during the off-season? Did you perhaps have a look at TO Strand and Leisure View while you were there?

Security not up to standard and with boats entering continually and personally I do not foresee any changes forthcoming. During our stay the manager had to attend to a bar altercation as well which occurred well after 12.

I would highly recommend TO strand and Leisure View.

We as a family had good experiences from our previous visit at TO strand but this was two years ago, my colleagues at work only express good comments on both these resorts.
Regards

Lourens thanks for the feedback. We currently up at Mac Nicols and leave here on Friday heading down that way towards the Cape so we will definetly give this one a miss.

Unfortunately a bad experience is widely published and can be catastrophic for the resort/camp. Thanks for the feedback. I remember a few years ago Aldam Estate had similar problems with day visitors and after a revamp no more day visitors. The money they normally make from day visitors does not even cover the damages.

I just came across this post now.
I have been to the pont many times as a youngster, and decided to take my kids there in December to show them how beautiful it is. I was very disappointed. There are so many new buildings, not enough security, people were walking through our campsite to get to the toilets and the bar. My daughter is three and she saw people puking on the grass, there was loud music until early hours. It has just become another money maker for somebody and I will not be back again.

We were warned about crime in general in the Port Edward area. We intended to go to TO Strand, but have now also decided against that. We will be moving higher up to Mac Nicols. I have only read good reports about Mac Nicols and the owners are also campers, therefore I think they do try to cater properly for the camper. Someone I know actually camped next to them last year (along Garden Route) and was impressed when they told him how they run Mac Nicols.
