Hi All
I am new to this forum, and need some advise from some of the well seasoned caravanners. My wife and I are looking to purchase our first caravan (a 1990 Sprite Sport). The caravan dealer has advised us that our car, an Opel Kadett 160i will be able to tow this size caravan. I have removed the single point feul injection and replaced with a Weber 36 carburettor, increasing power output quite substantially from the standard 58 kw's. I can see from a weight point of view, the car qualifies.
We are looking to purchase a bigger car next year sometime however, I would like to know if there are any other people out there with a simillar settup/combination. What is the stability and performance like.

Thanks for the advise. Another van available is a '91 Sprite Swift.
What are your views in terms of towing, stability etc.

I once had a 1982 Sprite Sport that I towed with an Opel Monza 160iGSI. Although the car could tow comfortable at 100-110 on the open road (bear in mind the 1982 Sport was lighter than the 1990 model) it became a battle of the gearbox on hills and in the mountains, such as Lootsberg Pass. Another problem was to pull away on a slight incline, you really had to know your story to manage.
The Monza GSI had more power than you currently have, so I would also recommend to rather go for something more substantial (and heavier) to ensure safety and a comfortable tow.
