I have noticed there has been s lor of discussions regsrding moisture meters, i purchased a cheap two pin unit made by Ryobi model mm-360 for R 280 that seems quite acurate for those looking for used vans, will deffinitly give an indication of moisture. They can be purched from Mica hardware, builders exsress Etc gives percentage and has three colour indicators green Orange and red. Hope this helps.
Welcome here John.
Thanks for the info. It will save having to take the van to a dealer to have it tested. They will most probably charge as much as the price of the unit.
I have a question. What happens if the caravan has leaked and there is wood rot damaged and then the caravan is left under cover and the wood dries out would the meter still pick up the area where there is damage. Or does it only pick up if the wood is still wet. Or does it show where there is less density because of the wood rot ??????????
I have it that the unit only measures moisture content. If a caravan with woodrot is kept undercover long enough for it to dry out, then I doubt if this unit will pick it up.
The advantage of having one of these units is to determine dampness before woodrot sets in. Be nice to have one belonging to a club for members to use.
This device is basicaly a warning light for future damage. Nice to have if you are camping during a down fall to get an idea if any moisture has acurred. The more professional units will be able to give density Etc. For the price it is a handy tool to have on your camping list.
Will get one on manday and try it,John
