Is there anybody towing a caravan with a Mitsubishi Outlander CVT (auto) than can assist with advice?

Hi, as far as I know the CVT is not good for towing?? Please check tow rating of the car spec? I have the Rav4 CVT and because of CVT it may only tow 1000kg, but recommended not for towing, while the normal auto box in the diesel and petrol versions kan tow 1500kg to 2000kg... so I would first make sure if that vehicle spec allows for towing... belt on CVT having additional strain might be problematic in future, although I would think the idea of towing with CVT that can vary the revs fo torque level at any speed would be fantastic

Sorry, the vehicle they had was a Outlander sport also known as ASX with CVT diffirent vehicle.

Would hesitate to tow with a CVT gearbox, normal auto is fine but the design of the CVT boxes is such that they do not last long with the additional strain of a van behind the vehicle.

Thanks for replies and info. I bought the car last year and because of the 2.4l engine, I was hoping I could join the "caravaning world", but I heard something about the CVT not being fit for caravan towing. I however could not find any info to confirm this. I'll then have to rather change the vehicle or continue with tent and trailer camping.

My eie ondervinding met my CVT Jazz wat my beste voertuig ooit is sal ek nie sleep behalwe my m-fiets. My Jazz het in 9 jaar nog net bande, remblokkies en battery nodig gehad. Die 1e kar wat ek nog nooit eers moes water ingooi nie.

Volgens Honda kan die handrat 1000kg leep maar die CVT net 800kg. Dit is ook bekend dat daar baie van die Jazz CVT's op 60 000km plus 'n ligte vibrasie gevoel word vir die 1e 10m as jy wegtrek en myne het dit ook al lank. Oorsee het hulle die waarborg verleng na 5jr maar nie in SA.

Sover ek kon uitvind kan niemand in SA dit regmaak en 'n nuwe ratkas kos R70 000. Daar is onder andere 'n chip in die ratkas wat help met die verandering v d belde.

Om weg te trek en nooit ratte te voel is net fantasties. Ek sal nooit weer 'n gewone ratkas op my alledaagse kar wil he nie. CVT is great en dan ook nog die manual opsie met knoppies as ek ver ry.

Vir sleep sal ek se bly eerder weg selfs na mens die gewig verlaag het vir die CVT.

'n Baie slim ou by 'n werkswinkel wat gereeld op die MBenz A reeks ratkaste regmaak se dis die scrapste ratkas wat ooit ontwerp is. Hy het amper altyd minstens 1-2 wat hy aan werk.

Baie dankie vir die info Danie-SLK (and also all the other members). Ek geniet ook nogal die gladde oorskakeling van die ratte. Ek sal dan maar liewer wegbly van karavaan-sleep. Of ander opsies oorweeg.

Waarborge het die laaste paar jaar verander en sal verander glo ek weens opposisie. Dis die lewe vandag en verandering is gewaarborg.

Myne was net vir 3jr en dit word duidelik gestel dit is Honda SA se waarborg. Dis 'n goeie ekstra om dit nou 5 jr te he.
