Recently after my caravan came back from the people who replaced my gas lifters for the roof. I noticed that the main light in my 98 Jurgens fleetline L was not working. I bought new florecent tube but did not work. Checked if there was power coming to the fitting and that was ok. Took new tube back for exchange and still no luck. Any idea if i should replace complete fitting or is there an alternative led fitting with on/off switch that is available.
I would remove everything inside and put LED strips inside direct to the 12v supply.
Faizel you can also tryn these LED lights you buy in 1 or more that are interconnected and you connect 12V on the one side and each LED feeds 12V to the next. This way you can retain the excisting fitting and switch. The are less than R30 each at a China Mall.
3 would provide more than enough light. The type with a round protruding cover over the round light gives more of a spot but the one in the pic gives a nice spread.
Thanks guys. Think i need to take the fitting apart and take it with to China Town. will keep you updated.
The tube lights make use of a small PC board to get it working. When you install the LED lights you can remove this small PC board as well. No need for it when using the LED lights.
You can fill the existing light fitting with the LED lights as Danie suggested. You can even get them in other colors apart from the white.
Install the white light LED's with one or two blue in the old casing. By installing a two way switch in die old casing lens you can the toggle between the white and the color lights.
This is a nice project. If you plan this nicely you can kit the caravan with down lighters in the roof.
Take your time before you just reinstall the old fitting.
It must be the circuit board. They do pack-up with time and are expensive (in relation to the cost of the complete light) to replace.
As suggested by all, LED is the way to go.
