FRIDAY & SATURDAY: My hubby and I stayed only Friday and Saturday nights, from 31st January, easy access, stunning scenery, good birdlife. Sites cannot be prebooked. Campsites near to Dam were almost fully occupied when we arrived at Friday 3pm, and seemed overcrowded with boats too, so we parked above and to the right of Ablution Block F. This ablution block was kept very clean over the weekend, we had no problem with hot water there on Friday and Saturday night. Sites above and away from popular waterside areas were spacious, mostly well grassed and fairly well shaded and quieter. We found it confusing to see where exactly one site ended and another began! It was very noisy from before 05:30 with outboard motors from boats starting up on Saturday morning, but peaceful enough in our fairly secluded position during the day and evening. There was a very big problem with infestations of biting ants on many pathways, painful for young and old campers enroute to swimming pools/shop even with shoes on. Day visitors pools (+heated pool) were clean and attractive with great views. Residents swimming pools had less shade but were clean. We didn't have time to explore out of the resort except to drive to the dam wall on the main road. The shop seemed reasonably well stocked.
SUNDAY TO WEDNESDAY: We were joined by my daughter, her husband and 20 mth old toddler on the Saturday morning and they pitched their tent on a neighbouring site and stayed for 4 nights. Unfortunately, our initial favourable impressions were not shared by them from the Sunday night after we had left them to go home, when Loskop shut down the nearby Ablution block F that we had all been using and hot water seemed to be totally unavailable in E block which they were told they should now use. My daughter was told unsympathetically, when she complained at the office, that she hadn't run the water long enough!! She had showered and washed her hair in totally cold water and the same thing happened the next day!!!! Plugs for the baths were also non existent. They also turned off some of the pathway lights during the week. They discovered a remote small Ablution Block G (?), it had hot water but no shower head and some bare wires hanging from the ceiling.
I have to conclude that the facilities are serviced fully during the busy weekends but campers are left very much to their own devices during the weekdays with no support or Customer service from management or staff who sit in airconditioned offices and state that they are trying to save electricity! At no time on checking in were they advised that they should only camp in certain areas due to various Ablution Blocks being closed during midweek. Forever Resorts Loskop is not cheap and visitors should be able to expect and enjoy the same quality of facilities on any day of the week. They have stayed at Forever Badplaas and Swadini and never experienced before such a drop in standards and facilities during the week as well as a general lack of maintenance.
I started to do a Rating but honestly don't know whether I should rate it according to our initial experience as a couple (at the weekend) or including my daughter's family disappointing experience in midweek. Sorry this is so lengthy!!
