I am new to full timers me and my wife have now gone on pention we have sold our house in Benoni we are planning to go down to the south coast natal we have our own caravan can someone tell me which parks on the south coast cater for long term stays. Welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy the chats.  You have more guts than I do to pack up everything and go for it.

What about booking in for a short stay of a couple of weeks, then take your time to look around at different parks until you find the one that suits you and then settle in for extended periods.

Most of the parks do have special monthly rates for pensioners. Try Margate caravan park.....

Why not check in at Scottburgh Caravan Park for a month. It is nearly in the middle of the South Coast and from there you can go check the other parks up and down the coast. Lots of the parks offer month rates but high season can be problematic.

Most of the caravan camps on the Natal South Coast have special pensioners monthly rates. Lots of our friends have sold or rent out their homes and do the permanent camping thing. The normally stay two to three months at a camp and then move not further than 100km at a time.

The high season period and in Natal that is all school holidays you have to pay the higher rates that can be very costly. Some of them move then inland for the period where it is cheaper or use those times to visit their family up north.

Here is the Western Cape there is a number of caravan parks that cater for the long term people by giving them package's for the tree months over Christmas period at about R9 000 to R10 000 for the tree months. It is more expensive than the normal rate but not the R1 000 a day holiday rate.

You should also look at may be moving inland over the windy and rainy period from late August to end November.

We have opted for the smaller house as base and camp as often as possible. Hindsight it was a wise decision with my wife been diagnosed with cancer and we had a base close to good medical care to revert back to for a period.

Down in the SC, I will suggest:

- Caravan Cove - Park Rynie.

- Pepper Pots - Port Shepstone.

- Banana beach caravan park - Close to Hiberdene and PS.

Welcome to you.  Hope that your pension travels will be pleasant and joy full.  Myself also born and raised in Benoni (Northmead) plan to do the same thing one day.  The forum members have provided good camping spots.  I for one would take HM advice and start at Scoties.  In the middle of the south coast making travels to other resorts easier for day drives.

Their pensioners prices is also valid over Decembers

Derek; Welcome to the forum. We came back from a two week camping trip at Drakensville this week. We were amazed to find out that they charge R74 per day for senior citizens. That is just over R2000 per month. There were quite a few long term campers that camped for a moth or two before they migrate to the South Coast.

We have been at Shelly caravan park for the last 4 months rates are R 2.400.00/ month, the reason being that we are 1km from the South Coast mall, which is very convenient and right next to the freeway, as we only retiring in another 2 years.

Is daar 'n ander uitgawe maandeliks wat mens nie van weet nie?

- Mabaligwe is "Sharp", maar om km's te ry na naaste dorp met brandstof prys, is negatief.

Ons is tans 6km buite Modimolle en werk volgens ons "Budget".
