Kleinplaas Resort Feedback
UNless I am being dense I don't see this resort listed under the review options, so I will just do a quick post.
The resort is in Oudtshoorn, 1.4 km from the Wildlife Ranch, which is convenient. Good 1st impression with neat reception area. You are given a key bunch that has your site number on it, and a key for the bathrooms, plus one other key I never figured out. There is also a disc to open the boom.
Personally I don't like the key story, since it deters no-one, (people just wait for someone to come out), but it does inconvenience you, especially when each adult is taking a child to respective bathrooms!
You drive past all the chalets to get to the campsite. We did'nt go in but I believe they are quite nice.
Most sites are large and clearly numbered. We were only overnighting, but no-one could figure out the site markers for the area we were in, but I think that is the only area where the markers were unclear. The site are very well shaded, which in such a hot town is welcome. The consequence is that the sites have very little grass.
No braai's on the sites, but I think you can request portable ones. There are 2 communal braai areas.
The pool area is nice, with grass and some shade. The pool itself was'nt particularly clean, but given that it was 42 degrees, and in heavy use, that is understandable.
The ablutions are a bit of a contradiction. To start with the negatives, There were tiles missing in all the shower cubicles, some of them pretty sharp. By 9pm the ablutions were fairly messy. Also, not much ventilation, and with the door always closed it gets very hot when the showers are all going. The flip side is that they ablutions are very modern and well laid out. Once the tiles are repaired (I believe the ladies side is fine) they will be beautiful. The showers have a clothing recess behind a dividing wall, plus a glass door to the actual wet area. The toilets all have air-fresh and there is plenty of soap and hand-towels at the basin. By 05h30 the next morning they were clean again, but I never saw any staff at all other then Reception.
The campsite was about 2/3 full at most, and with 3 toilets & showers, I think the ablutions would take strain at capacity. There is a bit of a kids play area and a large open space, presumably for games. The scullery only had 2 (double) basins.
A personal bugbear for me is long grass, and there were a lot of overgrown areas that could easily be accesssed, even if the park was full.
In summary, it was a good overnight stop, or even for a weekend. It does need a bit of TLC and attention to detail to fulfil the potential it has.
Hi Andrew,
I don't think I would go there, but you can be the first to rate it.
I often go to Oudtshoorn for work and always stay at Kleinplass. The accomodation is very good and you must not miss out on the breakfast provided. Apart from work related stays, I also camped there twice as overnight on route to my destination. The reason for the ablution keys is to prevent the swimmers from using the ablusions directly. This in turn keeps them clean for longer. The ablutions are for the campers only so chalets people has to use their own accomodation.
Stayed there again during Dec last year and will go back again any time.
Thanks Andrew and Leon always nice to have reports on resorts. Will keep this one in mind while touring around.
Was there for n3 days in des and will go back any time

One of my favourites.
Their breakfasts are superb!

Thanks
Regards.
This is how we spent the last fifteen years - working our buts off!
Left way too early for breakfast...but I may have stuck around had I known about it!!
If the keys are to stop people from the pool using the ablutions, then it just proves my point. There was an endless stream of people just waiting for someone to come out, then in they go. Keys were utterly superfluous.
I will put a review in shortly.
Are there any recent updates ? we intend spending 2 nights here early February on our way to Mossel Bay.
Alternatively De Hoek or Cango Mountain Resort
Ons was by Kleinplaas laas Desember/Januarie.
WAARSKUWING:
Kampeer is aansteeklik en verslawend ðŸËÂ
Thanks Geert we are also thinking that Kleinplaas would be the better option for us at least this time. We will then explore Oudtshoorn as we have only driven through before. We have been to the Cango Caves many years ago so we will probably go again as we have 2 days there.
Brian, there is also 'Op die Dam' just outside Oudsthoorn. But don't know anything about it.
We stayed at Kleinplaas for the second time at the end of May. They were hosting the 360 cycle race, no problems encountered.
Living the dream
WAARSKUWING:
Kampeer is aansteeklik en verslawend ðŸËÂ
Does look like a very good option as well.
Sal weer daar gaan oorstaan.
Hi Brian,
We have stayed at both Kleinplaas and Oppidam.
However with your van I would recommend Kleinplaas in that the entrance to Oppidam is quite tricky especially with a long van. While they do have a second gate which they can open which bypasses the one extremely sharp curve, there is still a steep short incline to go down which has caught the back of our van on both arrival and departure.
With regard to the municipal parke - we stayed at Cango Mountain resort and visited de Hoek many many many years ago however during recent 'drive bys' I'm not sure I would stay at either.
Regards
John
Thanks John, appreciate your feedback. I think we will go to Kleinplaas.
I have made use of Kleinplaas in numerous instances. Either using the chalets when working with the SANDF or over night camping during December holidays. We always enjoyed our stay there. I will even advise that you make use of their buffet breakfast. Value for money.
GOD IS ALTYD TEENWOORDIG
Sonder Jesus is ek niks! ! ! !
Tks Leon we will try their breakfast, no haste from there to Hartenbos is a short ride so we have plenty of time.
That is good feedback from John, especially with your long "Van" to be considered.
