Dis ons rusplek wanneer ons noord OF suid ry.
Dankie Danie
Thanks for the info this will suit me for my tour back towards Gauteng via Strandfontein from Swellies 😃
Thanks Danie we are booked there for Sunday night.
Danie dankie vir deel
On Sunday morning just after 6h00 we travelled from Muldersdrift via the R28, Krugersdorp highway, till the N12, which we followed to Three Sisters joining the N1.
The R28 was double laned, but with robots etc a little slow but traffic was light. N12 was free flowing with appropriate overtake lanes.
Entering Potch is a '1 Stop' with clearly marked bus and caravan and trailer parking, impressive.
Potch was my military service stomping ground so good to pass through, although not quite the same.
Kleksdorp was a nightmare. The round is disintegrating...seriously bad.
The road between Klerksdorp and Wolmaransstad had some serious potholes. Closer to Wolmaransstad they are repairing the road so it was better.
The main road through Wolmaransstad is non existent. A gravel portion is the smoothest. Very, very sad.
Bloemhof was surprisingly ok.
Doing zigzags through Kimberley waiting at a robot....click click.... there was an attempt to open the passenger door. Fortunately our doors are always locked and windows closed (and tinted).
I understood that the Kimberley route would be quieter esp on a Sunday, but there were many trucks going slowly on the route.
Kambro communicated via Whatsapp, giving basic details and sharing their food options which we ordered before getting there. Excellent.
Checking in was efficient and friendly.
Our stand was partly grassed, tree branches a little low for standard caravan and some potential hazards for a Exclusive. So getting in and out around the site was done very carefully (I have a history of scraping against obstacles)
(wood for campers is for sale at the shop)
The ablutions were by far the best that I experienced on our almost 3 month tour.
So unfortunately the Kimberley route will not see me in a hurry, if it did Kambro will definitely be high on the option list.
Richard, thanks for the update - making me think twice about getting my van (same size as your Excl) into Kambro. Sad to here the road conditions through Klerksdorp & Potch. Pleased you got through Kimberley ok, sounds like its becoming another Umthatha. One always needs to be aware and vigilant while travelling.
Brian please don't be put off with my parking experience.
The front of the stand has plenty of maneuvering space. When booking just ask for a easy access stand ( which I didn't).
The stand has a 'border wall' about 6cm high, which you don't want your wheels/tyres to touch. The front of stand was open. Left hand side has a wall incorporating braai, power point( blue socket), light and switches. The back wall is reeded with a post support on the right ( a watch out for point). The right hand side provides a channel gap with trees further to the right, the obvious parking spot. The front right hand corner has a low post with a handy light. I parked unhitched as the caravan was basically level. The arrangement appeared to be, drive in on right with van door onto the stand. Exit by driving around the stand and come out on the left side. I choose not to attempt clearing the van on the back post so reversed out, keeping off the 'border wall' and the light. So precision was required.
Richard, ah ok so with movers should be a doddle 👍
Dankie vir die terugvoer.
Kambro stands are basically level and as Richard said, you can park unhooked and go forward around to exit on the other side of your stand.
When you do the booking, ask a stand for a big caravan.
Ablutions 100% up to standard.
We went for a nice stroll on the farm road between the Karoo bossies - very nice clean and fresh air.
The road conditions at Wolmaranstad is a nightmare as we passed through after rain meaning you could not judge the size of the potholes or mini swimming pools on the road. My Exclusive got stuck in one of these donga's entering Wolmaranstad from Bloemhof side and I had to pull the van out of this hole.
Thanks for the pics Chris, we were in number 3 the 4th pic. Sadly the tree in the middle is only half that size now. The grass was a bit patchier than your pic. To get the van past that post on the right I would probably have had to have driven over some bushes behind the stand. I was parked very close to the brick wall border.
Yes, absolutely Brian. Movers will make it a breeze.
Fond memories of when they opened. Friend and I were first vanners there and luckily my pal was an Eskom HT techy as the power plugs were back to front with live prongs coming out of the wall 😢😢
By die graansilos, Eenheidstraat draai links.
Veilig ry !
