Yes, we all love camping. But what are our other interests?
My wife loves reading, I rather listen to the radio to relax.
We both like birding but are not "fundies". (Is the right name "twitchers".)
I enjoy a game of chess. (My 11 year old grandson loves beating me.)
My wife love bottling all kinds of preserves, specially chillies. I love eating them, except the chillies.
Come on guys. Lets see what makes you tick.
My other passion besides camping is astronomy.
The wife loves reading and her blackberry cell phone.
My main interest is to frame my wife's paintings and art works. It keeps me busy just about every night.
What an interesting topic Hendrik...... might set a new trend....
This can lead to some 'themed' rally weekends with workshops for those with the same interests and for those interested to join in!
Even workshops for those workaholics .... how to relax, just do nothing and try to enjoy it..... lol
Thanks Tinus and Estelle. What are you guys interests and hobbies?
Willem, tell us a little more about the bikes and sprortscars. I see there is a sportscar for your avatar. What car is it? Do you still ride motorbike and what?
Clive, I suppose the astronomy equipment goes with when you camp. Tell us a bit what you use. Have you been to Sutherland yet? On our year tour we overnighted in Sutherland to do stargazing at the observatory. Overcast and rain for three days.
Hi Pieter. How do you decide what frame best suits the painting?
Don't be shy to tell us more about your interest or hobby guys.
Neill did the woodwork in the kitchen and my show cupboards, and I did the leaded glass. Working with glass is my interest. I do traditional leaded stained glass as well as moulding glass in a kiln. I make lamps, exotic bowls, door and window panels etc. All glass pieces are hand cut. I don't buy kits and paint the glass. The glass is all imported. I also melt and colour my glass in a kiln as well. Neill is busy building a bar at the moments. He never did any wood work before but I am so proud of what he has done.
Hi Marge and Neill.
All I can say is WOW!
Neill, I love the colour of the wood. Is it rosewood or stained? You could have fooled me that you have never did woodwork before. Remember to invite us all for a drink once the bar is completed. Just joking.
Music, reading, more music and more reading.
I have played guitar since I was 13 yrs old, was a teenager in the early 60's so you can imagine my taste in music - BUT I have a wide range in my collection - classics and opera included. Still have a 6 and 12-string guitar to this day but must admit that I am slack and don't play them often enough.
As for reading - always fact and never fiction - mainly biographies and auto biographies in the music industry and sports (rugby, cricket) - online book shopping is a bonus for me but I gotta watch my budget !!!
Then I am also an amateur birder with a good set of bino's and spotting scope on tripod - they are always first in the caravan when we pack to go. The scope is also used for star gazing on camps.
You may have guessed - I am a self confessed John Lennon freak.
My hobby is scrapbooking. The best thing after a great camp is to plan the scrapping page and print all the photo's.
I enoy the garage and the caravan, but am now running out of someting to modify or change, although I do want to change the 220v hot water system to a gas hot water system in the van. Other hobbies, bird watching and photography.
My wife is currently into quilting and silk embroidey and X word type puzzles
And then of course we both enjoy touring and caravaning with the Kruger park and the Cape being the favourites.
I am impressed with that woodwork - amazing - beautiful - lovely job.
It just goes to show, just a what little interest and challeng can lead to!
My weaknesses in life is "woman/women" but my downfall is pap and peanuts - the last one must go!
More seriously - Local cricket - Long distance running - of course camping - tropical fish - previously philately (too busy with something else!
At work people say I thrive on pressure ..... I believe them - I cannot see myself living more than two years after retiring .... die of boredom, lack of excercise, become more obese etc!
DR DRAKE GP that's not a Doctor nor a GP
Your Glasswork and your husbands woodwork is really stunning. You are both very talented.
Theo, you must definately "Come Together" at one of the Laagers. Remenber to bring the guitaar and amp.
Reminds me of this guy who goes to the doctor complaining he cannot stop singing "The green, green grass of home".
The doctor says, "That sounds like the Tom Jones syndrome.
The guy asks "Is it common?.
The doctor replies "It's not unusual".
One of my interests is to sit and think..........
But most of the times I only sit
Steelwork, Woodwork, CAMPING, Boating, Skiing, Fishing, Fooding (My unique physique is proof of this), flying RC tjopper, and by the way did I mention CAMPING.
I enjoy writing, cooking and making music (piano, organ, etc.) as well as gardening. (Yes, I am married, have three children and six grand children!)
Did I mention camping?
Hendrik ek ry nog bike, super bike en scooter vir werk, en bou nog sportskarre het al 7 gebou.
Willem. Is ek reg, dit is die Morgan Lynx replica. Baie mooi. Ek hou van die "racing green" kleur. Dink jy hy kan sleep?
Terug by bikes. Ek wil so graag my seun se Honda 1000 RR ry maar kry nie my been oor die tailpiece nie. Hulle se 'n ou hond se been lig nie meer hoog nie. Ek dink daai scooter is net die ding.
You and hubby's interests are both very impressive and look beautiful, a huge asset to your house!
Exciting.... Love classic cars..... are you a collector and still have them all, or do you sell them?
The bikes I can only appreciate.
Here are two photo' I took quickly, the light is not so good, but you can get the idea. Both are done acrylic paint.
Sorry the flash made them a bit white, you can not see the colours propperly.
These pears she had to do freehand, without a picture. The frames are a double set to give you more depth.
I love your lead glass work & Neil's woodwork.
Willem pension day is getting closer, now you need to find the job you love - come camping
I forgot, my other interest except framing, is pleasing my wife. What ever clever idea she thinks out, I have to make or build it.
Hi, just a progress report. As you can see a cooler box is used for more than camping. Neill is using it to balance the last piece of his bar on it. He still has to put an edge on the front top edges and fit lights to match my kitchen. Then what he has been looking forward to, is dressing the bar with all his bits and pieces. Then we will wet the bar with friends. He has also put lights in and under my kitchen cabinets and the display cabinet. I have finished the stained glass lamps and stainglass panels for the doors and he has put them up. So the cutting, drilling, sawdust etc is close to the end. Now to enjoy.
Please remember to post some pics of the bar when it is finished and stocked Marge. For someone who never did woodwork before Neill is very talented. Did Julius M give Neill some pointers?
Maybe we can then have a rally down at KZN and wet the bar ?
Thanks Marg / Neill
Hi Marge and Neill.
Have you wet the bar yet? I would love to see the completed project.
We have not wet the bar yet. Neill has got the last piece of the overhead up. Still to do the lights and dress the bar. He is taking a break until the new year. The huge flat screen is up. (Rugby) He has set it up so we can be in the pool with a beer and still watch the rugby etc. We have something on every weekend. Next weekend is our Christmas party at Queensburgh Caravan Park and the week after that we are away to Malelane, near Kruger. Neil has not decided how he want to decorate the bar. Any one any idea's. Regards Marg
Biking and camping
I have not done any glass work for a while as I was told by the Dr to take a year break because of a spine injury. (old injury playing up) I am now itching to get going again. Both pieces are recycled. The one was a broken mirror and I cut it up and tied my hand at something new. The other is a made up from broken beer bottles. I broke the bottle and then melted the pieces in my kiln. He is over a meter long. Now to think, how to put him up on the wall. I have collected some blue bottles and want to do something them, not sure yet, just need some inspiration.
Wragtag Pragtig!!!! Very Nice MArg, really very nice.
Has anyone got any ideas, or seen anything using glass or mirrors that I can get inspiration from.
