Has anyone camped at Imhoff caravan park , Kommekie. Didnot get a friendly reception when i called them a while back, any other known pensioner friendly parks in the cape town area.............plotting for next year as we intend spending a year in and around cape town.
George did you try Van Zyl's Rus ? What about Hardekraaltjie in Belville
George, most comments about Imhoff are quite positive, so perhaps you just spoke to a person on his/her off day. We haven't camped there but once, when we asked to drive through the park to see what it looks like, the reception was quite friendly, so I would not write them off immediately. It seemed like a nice place to us so it is still on our list.
Toe ons 2019 in Kaap was, het ons gou daar gaan inloer oppad Kaap punt toe. Was buite seisoen, so baie stil. Plek het baie netjies gelyk en sal graag daar wil kamp. Ek het wel gehoor dat Desembers die plek oorvol gelaai word....soms meer as 10 op n staanplek
Thanks, van zyls rus looks to be a good option, they appear to be fairly central.....
George you will enjoy Imhoff in Kommetjie and it is perfectly located for a person like yourself who enjoys fishing and launching your boat. Imhoff is managed by a lady who has been in charge there for a long time and she is very friendly so maybe you spoke to someone else.
The sites vary in size with grass and lots of trees which are always well kept. Ablutions are old but clean and big. There ia a section in the park where people stay permanently.
If you plan to do fishing while in Cape Town then i would recommend Imhoff as you can launch your boat at Kommetjie or at Simons' Town Yacht Club and Miller's Point is also just down the road. Alternatively you can launch from Hout Bay too.
There's some nice big malls about 10km towards Fish Hoek so you are close to everything you might need. I have camped at Imhoff several times although it has always been just for a couple of days at a time but have always enjoyed it. I have not been there in the past 2 years but i have no reason to believe anything has changed.
Just got a reply back from Hardekraaltjie, there rates are R4450 per month, not to pensioner friendly. Still waiting for a reply from Van zyls rus.
would anyone have an e mail adress for Imhoff, cant seem to pick it up on there online site, hopefully i can get a better response then i got on the phone.

Hardekraaltjie is OK for a short stay, but I would not think I would like it for an extended stay. It is right next to a very busy road and the camp itself is reasonably small and not really exciting. We have stayed there and is was quite neat, so nothing negative as far as that goes. We are not long term campers, but I think if I were, I would prefer some place nicer, more restful and pleasant. I don't know Van Zyl's Rus, but on internet this sound quite nice and it is more central to more areas, like Hardekraltjie, than those on the Peninsula.
Depending on where you would like to camp, Chapmans Peak caravan park might also be an option. We stayed there for a few days and it was OK, but a little run down though. I don't know whether they offer more affordable long term rates. It is a few kilos south from Chapmans Dive, restful and I recon quite safe with good ablutions.
