Hi all,

I am booking at this resort for the end of June.

Can anyone that has been there give me a small review of the place. This will also be our first time camping with the van at the beach. I know I have to take storm straps but what else should we be taking along. The site we have selected isn't right on the beachfront. One row back.

We have only ever camped in the bush - Kruger (Satara can be pretty windy) etc.

Also what is the average traveling time there from JHB if this is available?

Kind Regards
Douw

Rocky Bay is quite nice. You wil enjoy it there.Storm straps a must and dont forget rain protection clothes and a warm thing or two,
Traveling time 8 to 10 hours. Dont speed because of about a million speedcameras on the road, just ceck the lamp pilons in the middle of the freeway

Enjoy camping.

Hi Douw,
Rocky bay is not bad, can be a little crowded during holidy times, the weather is fine that time of year, warm days and can get cool at nights, but nothing like Gauteng,
June/July is best weather time down here, it can get windy though and can also rain, but this not the norm for this time of year and there is more good days than bad.
End of June, there might still be some sardines around for you guys to catch although i am starting to doubt it as we have not had a good sardine run in 8 years.

regards

graham

@Graham, Thanks for the feedback. Looking forward to the trip :) First time I will be camping on the beach front - we are more bush orientated :)

Great location. We went for many, many years, but eventually the annoyance of bad/inefficient management of the park made us go elsewhere. Security is a major problem, we experienced theft within the park, (attempted bicycle theft) and several other caravans had been broken into by what appeared to be outsiders climbing over the wall. They also turn a blind eye to dogs brought in by caravanners,(in season) and even regular notification of the dogs being bathed in the ablution blocks, never seemed to get a response. They don't enforce their own rules, so good luck to you if you want a relaxing hassle free holiday. I am not referring to a "one holiday experience", we gave them many opportunities to rectify the problems by returning year after year.Answered by Carol - Paul's wife.

Enjoyed the 3weeks we were there. If you are a fishermen, you are on the spot, the areaa right infront of the swimmingpool perfect for shad at that time of the year. We had a ball! A real pity to read about the breaking-ins and poor management. A really super camping spot.

Great Park, water isn't a problem when it rains due to storm gullies.
When the wind blows there is very little protection in this park, so depending on van and test set up a net may be a better option.
Great time of year, only us locals feel the cold during the evenings at this time of year

We go to this park quite often. Wind can be a problem on unprotected sites during certain times of the year, but late April, May & June is usually calm and you can safely book a beach site.
We aim for specific sites and I can give you help here if you wish.
Nice rock pools to swim in, good fishing and we have never had a security issue. Nice pool & games area for kids. They also have a mountain bike trail if you ride & charter boats next door.
You can take a nice beach walk to Happy Wanderers[Kelso]takes about 45 minutes where they have a nice pub.
Generally a well run park.

Hall daar.

So hou maar 'n oog. My staanplek is baie beskut. Great plek.

Hullo almal
Sal graag wil raad hoor oor goeie staanplekke. Also, one of our friends wants to join but prefers the chalet option. Are there camp sites close to chalets, still good location with regard to the beach? Worried about the theft comment: any recent feedback on this?

As Rory noted, during our club rally at the park we had a break-in, but since that time we have rallied at Iffafa and had the same problem.
Its unfortunate that these things happen but happen they do. If they dont climb over walls they enter from the beach.
Be safe, lock away valuables and even fit a passive sensor to a tent pole or the side of your van. That way everyone will hear of the intruder even if he wasn't seen.

Exactly what I will be doing - those wireless passives are R130 each at Builders Warehouse - a small price to pay...
