Guys , I recently picked up a  gas lantern for R10. I am looking for the canister for it, nobody seems to stock them. I tried few gas outlets, ODW , it looks like they were discontinued and someone even suggested an adapter for it. It’s Campingaz brand. Anyone got an idea where to get them?

You still get those canisters.  I have a little camping gas burner that we use in our picnic bag to boil water for coffee.  It works with the same fitting as your lamp.

What is nice about it you can remove the gas canister to pack everything away again.

Just shop around.  As mentioned builders should have as some of the tools works of a similar canister.

If you were close to me I could help you with a few canisters as I have about 30.

Could be awhile ago but still.

Is it a CV 300/470 plus canister?

I am not sure of the numbers you are giving but it looks exactly like the ones on the first photo.  My gas burner fitting looks exactly like the one on the second photo and third photo.

The grey part swings to a side.  You press the fitting onto the canister.  While pressing you slide the grey part back in line with the blue part of the fitting to align them again.  This way it seals and you can open the valve.

When done close the valve.  Swing grey part to the side. Remove the canister.

Is that the same one as the plumbers use on their blow-lamps for soldering copper pies?

I used to get them easily at under R 20.00

Yes you must just make sure it's the blue canister with LP Gas.  Other canisters are colored yellow and uses another gas that burns hotter for soldering purposes.

Those types of torches will not fit on the blue canister though.  I have a LP gas torch that I use for home plumbing jobs and it works fine.  Also with this blue canisters.

I just got  the 450g canister  at Game  for R30, I will test it at home this afternoon.

Is the mantle the same as Cadac gas light?

Mawonga, I understand that you would want to test the lantern you bought- I would do the same.  I would however, not use the lantern while camping.  The less open flames you use in your caravan or tent, the less the danger of a fire is. Also a flame competes for oxygen with you and your family which poses the danger of suffocation if you do not allow adequate air flow.   Before 12V lighting became popular, decades ago,  you were forced to use gas with all its dangers, but there are better options today.   The gas sock on the lamp does not last forever and you might have difficulty replacing it.  Once it has burnt, it becomes extremely brittle and might disintegrate from handling the lamp.

And gas is expensive- much more expensive than rechargeable LED lamps like  the very efficient Magneto lamp.

Sorry for late response, the lantern fitted perfectly, I only got the mantles this morning, and the lantern works perfectly.

At the end of the day, it has costed me less than R100.Thanks to everyone.
