Full timing with cats
Hi there can anyone share what it is like to full time with cats. I see resorts often say pet friendly but am not sure if cats are accepted.
Malcolm, my immediate reaction is are you serious?

Yes only cats with 2 legs

You have no control over the movements of a cats. Cats have a tendency to impose themselves on other people, and their homes, using their gardens as middens and stop over points. They mess with the bird life in and around you. I do not see how it would ever be possible to keep a cat and have friendly relationship with camp neighbors.
I am a cat lover but would not impose the unwanted attentions of a cat on others. For this reason I do not have a cat, out of respect for others. I would love a cat as a pet.
Had to deal with a Bengal Cat breeder in the house next door who's cats frequented my garden for their toilet. My garden stank, could not keep the cats out. They frequented my bird feeding spots and ambushed birds which later stopped coming down. Had to keep my house windows closed to stop the tomcats coming in at night and spraying my curtains and furniture. Was woken up every other night with the howls and screeches of cat fights.
Despite numerous letters to my neighbour, she simply could not understand what the problem was. It was NEVER her cats, until I showed her pictures. After she kept ignoring my plight I eventually reported her to the SPCA who came out and took some action, still did not solve the problem. They moved a month before we moved, finalluy the problem was solved.
In a caravan park this problem would be exacerbated.
One too many wasted sunsets, one too many for the road.

Al weer oppad iewers heen.

Dogs that are not on leashes also come around to spray neighbours tents etc. There are currently 6 little mongrels running round here at our campsite. I'm getting ready to wring one of their little necks. Hoping they all go home after the long weekend. Perhaps I should catch one of them and go drop it off in the reserve somewhere.

Strange that they allow dogs in a Big5 reserve

I thought so too 🤯

Moeg geploeg.
Although their self drive rules state you may not take your pets with .
With only 33 stands, this park is exclusively small and yet reasonably priced. It is run by the owner, who personally ensures good service. Each big stand has its own braai, water and 16 amp power supply, and the security here is excellent, with patrolled game fences and a Security entrance gate. Day visitors are not allowed in the park, to ensure it retains its peaceful and safe atmosphere. Small dogs are allowed by prior arrangement.
I missed this when making my booking - silly me

Good to hear they've got fences again.....was long time that there were no fences as elephants damaged it. Enjoy your stay

I think they are referring to the fences around Dinokeng not this resort as there certainly isn't a security entrance gate other than at the entrance to Dinokeng and the game still pass through the resort at night as can be seen from the droppings every morning.

Malcom, apologies we appear to be hijacking your thread

Yes, I am referring to De Rust resort fence....it was damaged by elephants. But those elephants were removed from Dinokeng as they also damaged the fence to the N1 highway and other resorts inside Dinokeng. They say the current elephants inside the reserve is very peaceful

No rats, mice, or any other fluffy thing.
Please
You'll never never know if you never never go

Amazing that leash trained cats are common in USA, UK but RSA cats are deemed untrainable. Me thinks that owners , like with dogs don't invest the time to train their pets or children.
At Klipspringer (Modimolle) they do accept cats/caravan, but only one and house trained.
Personally I do not have a problem with cats, because they control snakes and field mice.
They must not "piss" around my place otherwise they will get shot.
I sometimes get the impression that cat lovers are of the opinion that everybody else should be cat-tolerant, which is most definitely not the case.
We are bird lovers. Cats do not share our sentiments. Bird enemies are our enemies. Enough said.

Weereens voel ek presies dieselfde as jy Pieter.
