We are planning a Motorhome trip from Porterville (in the Western Cape) to Winterton to see friends during May. We thought of stopping at Karoo National Park, Camdeboo NP, and Mountain Zebra NP, then to travel around outside the Western edge of Lesotho to Winterton. Does anyone have any idea of the road conditions, possible routes, and suggestions on good Caravan Parks?
This will be my first visit to the Drakensberg - very much looking forward to it!
We have been to these three Nationsl Parks during 2015 and all three are well run and a pleasure to visit.
ATKV Drakensville,LalanathiRoyal Natal NP Mahai and Mountain Splendour are well worth a visit.
Go find Winterton's famous motorhome and Drakensville's powerstation!!
Travelled on Howick to Underberg to Kokstad roads recently and the roads were generally good with few potholes.
One camper we spoke to yesterday said they were enroute from Kokstad to Matateile last week somewhere close to Cedarville and had to turnaround as there was tyre burning and stone throwing on the road. People protesting about poor services in their areas. Cars were damaged and a farmer was injured by a large stone.
Thanks for you replies everyone! We do not plan to travel beyond Winterton on this trip though. Campervan - this is our usual strategy, but as it is new terrain for both my wife and I, we thought that we would pick the brains of the Caravanparks community.
If you are interested, we post photographs taken on our travels on my Facebook page from time to time - look for Michael Hindon.
