We are going to camp in Kruger National Park (in Satara, Lower Sabie and Pretoriuskop).
Are there Fridge/Freezers to rent in the camps?
If so what is the rental fees?
Some of the rustic kamps (no electricity like Balule) still have a big gas operated chest freezer you can use for free.
To the best of my knowledge there are no appliances to rent in the KNP or any SanPark for that matter. The communal kitchens also do not offer these facilities except at Malelane camp.
Some tent and trailer campers have been known to take a quality coolbox which they top up with ice. In summer this can be an daily expense.
The only rental equipment avaiable are gas braais at some of the busier picknic points.
No other equipment available for rental.
When we started out camping (a lot in KNP), we used a Collman coolbox which worked well, also in summer. You have to keep feeding it ice though, obviously more regularly in summer than in winter.
I poured out the water from the melting ice every afternoon and morning. That way your ice lasts a bit longer.
Try Dry Ice International. If you cover the dry Ice with newspaper they last even longer.
Do not know what the cost for a square of Dry Ice is though.
Gas braai's at Picnic sites and cutlery sets at all camps are to rent. Nothing else. No power rest camps like Balule & Tsendze have communal gas freezers. I have arranged with the camp manager to leave my perishables in the resturants cooler room when we went on a 3 day walk in the park. But that was a favour.
Drie jaar gelede was vrieskas geriewe gratis by Karoo Nasionale Park beskikbaar.
Johan, Karoo's camp kitchen is excellently fitted out. Freezer, microwave, urn/kettle, hot plates, enclosed in shade cloth.....
I was seriously impressed with it.
