Our favourite camping food is braai and potjie.

When it comes to braai, we usually start off with a Cheriso sausage and then we either have lamb tjops or some steak, either fillet or rump, and always a piece of boerewors.  With the meat we either have pap and gravy or some salads and or the famous braai broodjies.  Sweet patatoes are also a favourite, covered with foil and baked in the coals while the meat is on the braai.

We have two favourite potjies.  Oxtail and Chicken and Prawn curry.

Regards

Rachel

Other than the standard Braai, I always try making a different loaf of bread on the fire.

We are no huge meat eaters so braai does not feature as our fav. Our #1 camping food is a bag of croissants. It's the eat anytime anywhere food, we love them on our early morning game drives with Amarula coffee or just sitting around camp with tea.

Next would be Koo Chakalaka baked bean on toast or baked potatoes or just out the tin cold. :)

Braai definitely this would be either one of the following Chicken, Pork Strips or Lamb tjops. Then always veggies either in the steamer or in foil on the grid with the meat this could be Butternut, potato or sweet potato. Salad could be mix salad or one of these box salads that you buy from a store.

Brunch:
Eggs, Toast, Bacon, fried tomato, cheese grillers, large omeletes, ziplock omelets, Meaty breakfast muffins, Breakfast mushrooms wraped in bacon, stuffed breakfast buns, Chicken/Fish wraps and maybe just rusks.

Supper:
Braai, Braai, Braai and more Braai. Chicken, wors, steak, krokedille, skilpadjies, pork tjops, whole fillets, spareribs even just plain hamburger patties. If we camp longer than a weekend the Weber goes along then, Porkroast, lambroast, Eishbien, Whole stuffed pumpkin, Pizza, Chicken on spit, All kinds of large pies.
With the above we have pot brood, salads, liewe heksies, garlic potatoes, pasta, jacket potatoes, chips, chelsea buns, stirfriy.

We even make pudding in the weber.

For our favourite breakfast we like to spoil ourselves with a cheese and asparagus omelette with balsamic fried cocktail tomatoes, and our treat  for dinner will be skottel-braaied peri-peri prawns with risotto.

Hi Alex,
They say a picture says a thousand words. I did however try to add text with the photo but for some reason was unable to do so. Is this possible with this forum or are you only able to use either a photo or text, but not both together in the same post? If you can use a photo and text together in one post, do you have any idea how to do this?
Cowen.

I have added both in the same post before.

Just write your text and then click on "Insert an image" above. Then follow the prompts.

Here goes. Sorry, a bit scary.

When we go caravaning I do all the manual work - puting up tent , getting camp-site ready etc. My wife does all the cooking , and as she also reads this forum I had better say that ANY food she prepares is my best camping food.
Fortunately she still brings along some bottled goods - like cold beer - which is also one of my favourites.

Thanks Alex,
I was doing it in reverse order - picture first then tried to add text, maybe that was the problem.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with your photo - you look like the rest of us - the rugged look of the outdoors man.
Thanks for the reply and info.
Cowen.

Very nice photo Alex.

Siegfried, you better not let the other campers know where you are camping next or you will have a lot of them coming for breakfast and supper.

Nee ek het nie n Butler nie. By ons gaan kamp en lekker eet saam.

Hi Sonja. I usually braai chopped onions mushrooms bacon or what ever. Then you beat some eggs and bring a pot of water to boil. Put some of the braai mix in a Ziplock bag, pour some of the egg in, about half full, shake it a bit. LETOUT ALL THE AIR, and close the ziplock bag. Put the bag in the  boiling water and hook the top over the side of the pot and hold down with the lid. Let it zimmer until the egg is done.

Tilt the ommelet out of the bag. If you really want you can wash the bags for re use.

The best food is the duck fat, butter, lard ,cheese etc. oily greasy foods as per the Banting Diet. In the beginning the starch foods ( bread pasta patatoes especially)are missed. Thereafter wow...
