Exclusive Maintenance Rear View Camera
The rear view camera concept does not need any introduction. I have pulled all the wires through and connected and tested everything. All working well.
One down fall of everything is, I could not get the camera that I always use. Had to be content with this one. Will keep on shopping around until I get what I want. You can only see a small piece of the camera cable between camera and the numberplate.
Large camera bracket ........ð
Wiring between Vehicle and Caravan
Power point for caravan camera and camp fridge on back of the tipper.
Barely visible the connector for Monitor above rear view mirror
So I am sorted wrt the rear view camera and power for the Camp Fridge at the back of the Tipper. Sorry some pics were taken at night.

Leon, that looks very neat. Where did you source those fittings on the tipper for 12V and what connectors did you use for the video ?

I bought the 12V fittings from Outdoor Warehouse.
The video fittings are the RCA fittings that came with the monitor and camera.
The power and video extension that connect the caravan camera are readily available from the China Mall here in Centurion or Montana Traders PTA North. The have another type of connector for the video but do provide the small adapter to change it to the RCA pins.
You get these extensions in 5m, 10m, 15m and 20m lengths.

Thanks Leon, mine have become corroded and problematic so I need to replace them with something better
Brian, I used a normal coupling for my rear view camera power and image cables as can be seen below. The one on the right hand side is for the rear view camera.

The RCA cable connecter at the camera is what is getting corroded. I had originally covered it with heat shrink but the connectors still became corroded with rust. Power to the camera comes from the vans battery and no problem there.
So I'm looking for a better solution at the camera and not the connection with the car. Apologies my post was not very clear as to where my problem actually was.
I this is of some help.
The connector at the back of my caravan is in the area behind the number plate and the rear wooden panel of the Caravan. What I usually do is after making the connections and testing them I cover the connector with duck tape for two reasons.
- To ensure that the connections do not vibrate loose over time.
- To keep damp away from the connector.
We use a product called Denzo tape to wrap around connectors to protect them from the sea environment. Allthought this tape does the job very well it is messy styf to work with.

Leon, my connectors are behind the fiberglass panel where the numberplate is attached and covered with shrink wrap and taped with duct tape to the panel but after 12 years they have become corroded. I suppose after 12 years I should not complain and just redo them :)
Ja well. Time is a b_tch. 12 years service for a camera is actually good I would think.

I use to cover the car side of the camera connector with a rubber boot. I found this agrevated the corrosion problem. I now leave it open and it can then get wet and then dry out again. I use the 4 pin round connector supplied/used by Purple SA.

Paul
Since I installed my first rear view camera, I have always used the connectors supplied. And up until now did not have problems with it.
