I would like to change the wheels on my 94 Sprite Sport from 13" to 14". I think that there is a better selection of tyres to be had. The rims on my van are 4 stud and the tyres are brand new. I am willing to buy the correct 4 stud 14" rims and give my old wheels away (mahala).

Can anybody please help?

Regards

Louis

Louis as far as I know the rating on the 14" tyres are better in that they can carry more weight.  On another forum there were a few members that had gone that way. Just keep in mind that you must ensure there is enough clearance within the wheelarch to accommodate the larger wheel.

This would also mean that you will have a little more ground clearance and a smaller drop plate on the tow vehicle if you are using one. I would think that there are more + aspects than - ones with such a change.

Adding to what Leon has given you, if you battle to gwt 4 stud 14" rims you can change the axle hubs to 5 stud. (5 stud 14"rims are easy to get). You will have to take one of your current hubs to a dealer e.g. Comet Caravans, Sunseeker, etc to ensure you get the correct size interchangeable hub. Replace the bearings at the same time.

Alco does manufacture prowhite 14' rims with 100 pcd R241 per rim.

Hi everybody

Thanks for the advice. I have found a set of rims and discovered that my 13" wheels will fit nicely on my boat trailer which has 10" rims.

Regards

Louis

I have gone that way on my Jurgens CI Escape and replaced the 4 hole hubs with 5 hole ones as 5 hole rims are generally easier obtainable as 4 hole rims. During the process I have lifted the van a 100mm by installing a spacer between the chassis and the Rubax bracket.

You will have to install a spacer to lift the van otherwise the larger wheels are definitely going to touch the top of the wheel arch when the van is loaded. A 30mm spacer will do the job here.

It would also be advisable not to go for a too large tire. I have fitted 175/14's otherwise the tires will touch the sides of the wheel arch.

All ground clearance problems are solved now, the van lies level with the car and I do not have to use a drop plate. I tow with a Pajero 3.2DID SWB Automatic.
