Has anyone caravanned at Loskop Dam recently, over a weekend? Is it very busy and noisy? The scenery looked stunning on SleepTV. We don't fish, we don't have children so we are wondering if it would be a bad choice of resort for our first camping experience which has to be over a weekend. Any up to date feedback would be a great help. Thanks!

Hi, yes we have camped at Loskop Dam over a weekend. Depending on what time of the month and whether they have their fishing competitions over the week-end it can be very busy.

Another suggestion which is close is DeVoet Plaat Caravan Park. This is quiet, in a valley, lots of nature hikes, montain bike trails, birds etc. Over the weekend they are full, and you should book before going, but it is really worthwhile.

Thanks for the help, Flintstones! Is that De Voetpadkloof, or somewhere different? That was on the list given to us by the caravan dealer, as a recommended place for newbies within easy distance of Gauteng. It looks very nice so I sent them an enquiry. The weekend we wanted is fully booked but am trying for another.

Yes, it is De Voetpadkloof, and we have just come back from spending a week. Sunday to Friday.

Another one you could try is De Rust, it is also quiet and no children under 16 which makes for a relaxing week-end.

Thanks very much for the suggestions. Don't get me wrong, we have no objection to children at all. We have a 18 month old grandson and we have been camping with them recently and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves but it will also be great to have some more peaceful time to please ourselves. If only it could always be midweek!!
