Hi All. Hope everything is nice and quit your side. Maybe this topic was already brought up before. I have a Howling Moon 3m in length awning that I bought many years before i got the caravan. I want to slide the awning into the tent rail. I need to make a slight opening at the top end of the rail in order for me to slide the awning in. What is the best way to make that opening. Can i just take a gripper and start bending it open. I'm  just scared that i will damaged the rail. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks.

You dont need to make an opening. Roll your awning halfway down and start insert it from the back.....around the corner from the top where there should be an opening. That will also prevent from sliding out whilst towing

As Geert explained it should be possible to pull the awning bag through the aluminium strip of the caravan when the awning itself is not in the bag.

Interessante onderwerp/vraag ....

"start insert it from the back"

Ek verkies om altyd van die voorkant in te ruig want daar is nie 'n 90° draai nie.

Oppad na die volgende kamp.

Hi Geert. if my opening was sitting that high up like yours, it would be ok for me to do it man alone(because i always have to do it alone). Will drop a pic to show where my opening is.

As you can see my opening is where the power socket is by the yellow strip. A bit far down for me. If it was higher then I will not need to take awning out of bag.

I will suggest to use that one at the bottom if that is the nearest opening. Once its up, you don't need to take it off again as you leave it on the caravan whilst traveling. You might need to roll it fully down. If you are alone, take it loose with to your next camping destination and ask one of the workers to help you....its going to take you 2 minutes. From there as mentioned,  you just roll it up and leave it on your caravan

Willem het 'n adisionele aluminium strip aangebring waar deur hy sy silver seil reig en die dan so bo oor die karavaan tent opslaan.  Hy kan meer info gee.

Hi Faizel do yourself a favour and buy yourself a tin of silicon spray at Midas and spray the strip with it before you slide in the awning. It will make your life a little better in helping to slide it easier in the strip. I agree make it a 2 man job the extra hands will make it a lot better. The silicon spray will also leave no marks on the awning.

I bent the rail open with pliers on my Fleetline, very simple to do.

I also use a tie-down strap over the top of the van to keep it in place (and above the top of the door opening) - I had a previous van where the door hinges were bent from previous owner trying to close the door with the awning too low.

On the opposite side of the van I made a small strap, inserted a short piece of tent peg and slid it into place in the rail at the top of the van (using sealer either side to keep it in place)

Good idea to hold the awning in place.  Just do not pull to tight on the ratchet as that bracket is not secured that strong.

Just takes a bit longer to open and close the roof with this in place!

When we do not use the awning during a stay I just loosen the ratchet enough to let the roof up
