I want to install an aircon in my caravan, but I need an idea on what BTU, 9000 or 12000!
Can the members of the forum please advise what BTU aircons they have installed in their caravans, namely Classique, Penta and Gypsey Regal. They are basically of similar size to my Gypsey 3.
The reason I ask is if I install a 9000 BTU, will it be sufficient enough to cool the interior down? Are you satisfied with your choice?
Thank you in advance.
Lees by soek "aircon" in en jy kry jou antwoord.
Sit n 12000BTU yet air met inverter.
Happy with my 9000 in the Surfer.
Hi Ronnie, we have a 12000 btu in the Fleetline and it works perfect. Here is a link where you can establish what size you need.
There is no difference in the fisical body/casing size of a 9000/12000BTU units of most suppliers.
For a bigger caravan I will install a 12000BTU unit for that really hot summer days as the insulation of a caravan is not like that of a house. A 9000BTU unit will do the job but the price difference is also not much.
For a house or office to install a bigger unit than is necessary is not good practice. The bigger unit cool the space to quickly and then switch off. Then it heats up again and the unit switch on and off to frequently which is not good for the compressor.
I have a 9000 btu in my Gypsey Regal and I am very satisfied with its performance.
1200 btu.Die kleiner units werk te hard in die erg somer as jy direk in die son staan.

Stem saam, welkom hier op die forum.
Thanks/dankie for the feedback. Gin, I read some of those articles under the search function which were quite interesting.
I used the website that Chris provided and it says 12000 BTU.
The outdoor unit is going to be mounted on the a-frame (will not fit in nose cone). There is just enough room to operate the jockey wheel handle without any modifications to it.
Welkom Riaan.
As jy een wil insit bel my. Ken iemand vir n goeie prys.
Thanks Gin, but I have already committed for them to install.
I have a 9000 btu Infinity unit in my Classique. Small outside and inside units, very light weight. Outside unit installed easily in nose case with lots of space left for the usual nose case items. Proven track record operating in caravans. Keep caravan comfortably cool/ cold. Taking afternoon nap with aircon on 21 have to use light blanket as it tend to become too cool but comfortable for me.
Thanks to everybody for your comments.
Fritz, as you mention regarding the size of the units, especially the outside one, after some measuring yesterday (as the outside unit can only be mounted on the a-frame), it is going to be more practical to mount the 9000 BTU unit as it is smaller dimension wize and your remark regarding the interior cooling makes my decision easier. This process with an old caravan is difficult and you only have one chance to get it right.
The aircon they are going to install is a 9000 BTU Infinity.
What Philly that installed my 9000 BTU said was in very hot areas where it get into the 40 degree +, when you stand in the sun and you go out for the day, leave your aircon on as it will take awhile to get the interior that heated up to high 50's cooled quickly. Our trip last month to Sodwana from from 13 to 27 Nov had a couple of very hot first days, the 9000 btu Infinity had no problem cooling it down and keeping it comfortably cool day and night. Coming out of the caravan after a nice cool afternoon nap was like stepping into a sauna, glasses mist up, breath catches. Very glad we installed the aircon. Not fun to try and take a afternoon nap while lying there sweating.
Thanks Fritz for advising on what the aircon can achieve for the unit size.
9000 BTU Infinity installed and I am satisfied with the cooling and installation of the unit. As the outside unit is fitted to the a-frame, my concern was the jockey wheel but it operates perfectly without any modification.
