Hi, want some advise to plan on best camping places to stay, places to visit on a three week trip doing the above with stop overs at Touwsriver, De Doorns, Worcester, Tulbach, Paarl, Robertson, McGregor, Montagu, Barrydale, Ladimith, Outshooren, De Rust, Uniondale, Jouertina and ending in PE.
Has any member done this trip and be able to share best plan, itenery for the trip in August 2019.
Regards Ron Korsman.
Welcome, you mean Route 62 ?
(stop at Aston for cheese and grape juice)
Can recommend SKURWEKOP close to Robertson-lovely stands on grass on the banks of the Breede river, great ablutions and security is also great. Also Montagu caravan park in town-great place to stay. Don't know of any decent park on your proposed route between Montagu and Oudtshoorn but Kleinplasie close to Oudtshoorn is great! Good luck and enjoy one of the most beautiful drives in the country!!
Hi Lien,
Thanks, and do mean Route 62 and thanks for the feedback.
Regards,
Ron
Yes, Route 62
Ron,
Welcome to the Forum, although you joined a long time ago you are not very active on the Forum, and with so little information about yourself and your campervan, it is difficult to give you much advice. Does your camper have 4WD/Low Range?
If it does, just before/after Ladismith, take the R323 circular route; OR
from after Ladismith, take the R323 and join the track into Die Hel, then from there go out the other side and exit through Swartberg Pass and come back to Oudtshoorn, via Meiringspoort.
On both sides of the R62 there are countless beautiful passes to drive.
Before you get to PE you can also visit the Baviaanskloof, which is also a very scenic area to visit, which is very tourist orientated, so plenty places to stay or camp.
Get yourself a Tracks4Africa Traveler's Atlas of Southern Africa and you will never look back. If you then get the Tracks4Africa sim card, which you can use with a compatible (Garmin) GPS, then you have a matching map source on your GPS, which you can program with Mapsource, if you are more computer literate than I am.
Good Luck, safe & happy travels...
