Hi there - Would anybody know if there are any permanent caravan parks in SA, if so do you hire the caravan at the site or bring your own caravan and also what is it like to live permanently at a caravan site?

Hi Patricia,

Welcome here!

Try Weavers Roost, not far from Krugersdorp.

We were there in January ... very peaceful, spacious and nice vegetation.

We could see a number of permanents scattered all over.

You will be able to see some pictures and comments if you search in the title.

Don't be misled by the entertainment pictures - the permanents are a fair distance away.

Ou Skip in Melkbostrand has a permanent section as well although is segregated from the rest of the resort.

If you want to go to the sea....Rocky bay Scottsburg. Close to amenities and sea facing. Very nice. Last I heard R2000 per month for stand with electricity

Imhoff and Ou Skip are both across the road from the beach. Very well run parks, esp. Imhoff.

No a transplanted Rhodesian/UK - my hubby supports the sharks as well, I hate rugby, soccer & Cricket,my hubby loves them, I am more into tennis etc LOL

I recall Caravan Cove at Park Rynie have Pletts that are privately owned. Give them a try. They might have permanent caravan sites as well.

Caravan Cove between Scottburgh and Pennington I know have Plets.

Ocean Call between Warner Beach and Winkelspruit have Plets and Caravan set ups with private bathroom for sale. Contact Lorraine on 0714368171or oceancallshareblock@yahoo.com

Both not too bad.

Beware some parks with permanents - have a GOOD look first.

You could encounter this scenario!

Wow!!!!! I have sent Caravan Cove (+ a whole lot of other camp sites) an email and they do a monthly thing for R2253. My husband & I have been toying with the idea of permanent camping and are looking around along with my sons who live in Durban (we in JNB), so far it is just a "thing" that we constantly discuss and I am following up on it - Do you both travel a lot with your caravan???

We do not want to go to dodge camp sites, we would want security, good name etc, seems as if it is quite the thing overseas but not so much here.

Hi everyone,
I see from the above there are a few caravan parks offering permanent sites on the South Coast - anything closer to Durban? This is for my in-laws - I live in NZ so am totally out of touch with where a good place to live would be. They're currently on the Bluff in Durban so ideally would like to stay as close as possible, but they need to move into something smaller and more manageable.

It just might help you. Are your parents wanting to live in a caravan park permanently as my husband and I also want to do the same and I see that there are a few good parks around Durban. Some of them want one to move for 4 months of the year while others seem to be permanent. let me know how you/your parents get on.

We offer Semi Permanent accommodation. You would need to bring your own Caravan. Our Plots are all 9m x 9m and are partitioned off from the next plot.

It is a wonderful life, if you like the outdoors.

Queensburgh in Durban and Richards Bay Municipal Park used to have permanents. Do not know if that is still the case but both parks have improved a lot apparently. Plet Haven at Illovo Durban has Park Homes that sometimes come up for sale, and it looks fairly well run and not a trailer trash park. You would not want to stay at Winklespruit caravan park where permanents like Boring Campers pictures show. Rocky Bay seemed to have one or two permanents when we last camped there about 2 years ago and that is a really nice park.

Marlon at Sunwich Port (110 km south of Dbn) has permanent caravanners there presently, also permanent Plet type homes which come onto the market from time to time.

Also try Lalanathi, halfway between Hibberdene and Port Shepstone, if I recall correctly they offer permanent or semi permanent stands.
