We have now moved on to Mossel bay , here at Dibiki Hartenbos for the next 3 months, Towed from Knysna to Mossel bay for the first time with the Triton 3.2 [ only got it in Jan this year ] and after towing around the past 12 years [ 3 on retirement ] with the trusty old colt 2.8 which we used to load up, hitch up and go, the Triton had a sting in its tail, we loaded up, hitched up and noticed the rear of the bakkie dropped quite a bit and once on the highway I could immediately feel the steering was very light and the whole rig felt very nervous , anyway did not exceed 80km ph. and got here ok but did not feel at all comfortable at any time on the trip, [ starting to miss the colt ] the rear of the triton is certainly not as robust as the colt, and I really did not foresee this issue, Anyway after a lot of research and speaking to those in the know, I bought a rear  air suspension kit, which I installed myself this past week which should now allow me to pump the rear up when loaded and hitched up to the required ride height at the rear to level the bakkie which should give me the steering back and stabilize the rig. Anyway I don’t get to test this until we leave here at the end of June.
two roads diverged in a wood and i took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.

I also installed the air helpers to my Ranger. This is because of what I need to load in the canopy on certain long trips together with the weight of the caravan at the back the Ranger trops about 8cm. Not much and it does not influence the control of the Ranger at all. The airbags helps to level the Ranger / bring it back to its normal height.  However, the main reason for fitting it is when driving in e.g. Botswana on twee spoor roads with thick sand with a middel mannetjie it helps to increase the height at the back with about 5 to 8 cm so that the towbar and caravan misses the middel mannetjie and also to distribute more weight to the front wheels for better traction on all 4 wheels. Works very well.

For normal driving at home I keep the pressure at 0.5 bar.

Had them on my 1984 Land Cruiser (leaf springs front and rear) and now on my Fortuner. Best investment! Always a pleasure to see the look on the faces of petrol attendants when I pump the bags.

You'll never never know if you never never go
