Been three weeks at Drakensville- weather not been too cold the daytime temp has been between 15 and 24 deg nights do get chilly in the van about 7 to 11 when we wake up, however turning the central heating system soon gets the temp nice and warm. Load shedding also has not been a problem as the camp generators kick in. 

No visible snow on the mountain - yet 🤪

Camp has quite a number of sites occupied but no where near full. We paid R100/night which is a real bargain.

Off to a warmer part of the country on Wednesday.

R100 is n hengse bargain....as jy dink daar is selfs nog n generator vir jou gerief.....dan kry ek skaam vir die mense op facebook wat steeds kla dis te veel

Down to the Natal coast we have some family to visit but will stay at a caravan park. Haven't decided just yet 🙂 have no intentions of swimming in the sea so that's not a requirement 

Last time we visited Drakensville (Febr 2021) they also had free WiFi!

They still do, however when there is load shedding the tower they connect to goes down same as the MTN and Vodacom cell towers.

 

Brian hello, dankie vir daai mooi foto van die staan plek by ATKV Drakensville, ek wil graag daar gaan staan een of ander tyd sodra daar 'n geleentheid kom.

Se my wat het jy nodig om te bewys dat jy op aftrede is of te wel nie meer werk nie, ek en my vrou sal graag een of ander tyd daar wil gaan staan vir 'n tydperk siende dat ons pensioenare is oor die ouderdom van 60 is.

Die staan plek lyk baie mooi en gerieflik soos in Voetplaat park (UNTU Palms) op die suid kus van Natal waar ons gestaan het so paar jaar terug, hulle het dieselfde gedoen met hul staan plekke.

We are AKTV Members however when they have a special / promotion on over the winter period it made no difference if you are members or pensioners. The cost was R100/night for for everyone. 

I'm not to sure exactly when the special ends you will need to get in contact with them to establish that. I assume it is a regular winter time special they have.

Outside of the promotion periods then member/ pensioner discounts will kick in. For pensioners you need to be over 60, they ask for your ID # when booking their system will automatically detect from your ID if you are a pensioner/member and the discounts will be applied.

I asked my 'pension' administrator for a pension card which they duly sent.

As far as I can recall I have only once ever been asked to present it, at Scotties, where you must be over 60 and a pensioner.

 

The only place I was ever asked for my pensioners card was at the Point in Mossel Bay. But then I was not 60 yet but the card still got me the discount ?

Richard, I was a member of the ATKV and on booking a place we where told that it was fully booked for the hindu people and with that I resigned from them and did not bother to reapply .
Now I'm retired from Transnet I use UNTU PALMS to go and camping now days.
I want to go there at Drakensville and see if I can get a booking for a weekend during the off season but I'm scared to be rejected again. I am going to try soon Richard. I did ask my administrators for a card and they replied they don't have that on there systems. I'm with Old Mutual since I went on retirement.

I received a pensioner card when I retired nearly 10 years ago and it was never required anywhere, my ID or drivers licence card was always sufficient, maybe the grey hair also helped.

Izak, while we were there for three weeks (2 May - 24 May)  there were plenty of camp sites available and this was during the promotion period. In fact I would say say it was only about 5-10% occupied.

Toe ons oor n Desember vakansie daar was, was daar net n kort tydjie in die oggend en n kort tydjie laat middag wifi gewees. Ek weet nie of dit op versoek van ouers/gaste was nie, maar die permanente wifi het veroorsaak dat hordes kinders heeldag net op fone besig was in plaas van oord geriewe geniet

Those parents obviously didn't have enough discipline over their children.  Certainly never saw that while we were their there and over the weekends there were quite a few more campers and chalets that were occupied and had children with them. They were riding their bikes and swimming in the pools etc. Only time the internet went down was during load shedding. I assume that this was due to the cell towers going down as my internet with MTN also went down during those times. Only from the last week did MTN stay up during load shedding. 

Hallo, ons is ook nou by Drakensville. Stand D07, net die wind wat ons wil weg waai. Soos Brian sê deur die dag is dit baie lekker en geniet ook die warem water swembad. Hul tarief van R 100 geld tot die 22 Junie, skoolvakansie. Het besluit om Glensheiling toe te sleep, dan Harrismit, Mount Everest Guest Farm, wil November naby die Kersiefees wees. (Doen ook die maand staan ding, 100km op n slag) Groetnis

Glenshilling is 'n pragtige plek. Paar keer daar gestaan (weliswaar tot so 5 jaar gelede) en toe was die nog aanvaarbaar. Toe was die ablusies nog in houthuisies, baie oulik maar redelik klein. Die dam was pragtig, en die omgewing uitsonderlik ... gaan na die brouhuis vir heerlike etes. Geniet die - sal lekker wees om weer terugvoering te kry.

NS. Die laaste keer wat ons daar oorgebly het, bygesê, het ek probeer om tyd en karvaansleep te bespaar. Ons het slegs die naweek oorgebly (vir die Amashova fietswedren) dus gedink ons kan in een van die karavaanhuisies daar oorbly. Groot fout, want die is opgestel vir kontrakteurs en nie juis geskik vir gewone gebruik nie. Maar, die karavaan staanplekke is goed.

Goeie dag mense, ja ek het toe terug aan gesluit by die ATKV Vereeniging en die mense wat my tot hulp was baie behulpsaam en het my weer terug verwelkom.

Ons is bespreek vir nou Vrydag 10 Nov 2023 tot 17 Nov 2023 teen R100.00 per aand met die 10% afslag. Ons wou oorspronklik net 5 dae staan toe was dit duurder e ons is gese om die aanbod van 7 dae te vat wat ons minder gaan kos.

Ons sien uit na die wegbreek na 28 maande se huis sit en ons kan gaan kamp met ons karavaan.

Sjoe....dis goedkoper om te gaan kampeer as om tuis te bly. Geniet jul wegbreek
