I asked a caravan electrician to sort out my lights on my caravan and he removed the ISO charger. He never returned it and subsequently told me that he has lost it.

He is prepared to replace it but we have no idea where to start and what to replace it with.

The caravan is a 1992 Wilk Amethyst and the panel is called an ISO Charger.

Does anyone have any advice on where I can start looking for one and how much he should be expecting to pay for it.

Thanks in advance ISO charger

Welcome on the forum Fernando. It seems the frontal area of the ISO charger is quite small.

  • Were you thinking of keeping it standard?
  • Do you have space as in height and width for some other charger?

I’d prefer to keep it original. But if that’s not possible then I have some space to work with, as long as it looks like it should be there.

I do not think that you would find anything else that would fit there.  My advice is to get a distribution 220V box and fit it in a lower bunk Along with a Smart charger for the 12V side.

I will have to close of the gap where the ISO charger was with something neat.

The distribution box from builders with switches and everything is about R800 to R1000 and National luna 5A smart charger R1600 Outdoor warehouse.

Thank you. I will look into that.

I was also considering getting a zig board off eBay to replace the previous panel but I have no idea what to look for. From what I see I’d be it’d be a couple hundred bucks more than your option and probably fit in better.

Do you know anything about these?

Hi Fernando, seeing that it is electrical I would go for modern technology if you intend to keep the caravan for your family use. That would prevent running around in future if you experience a problem again, and safeguard your family. By that I do not mean old is bad. It is just my experience to fit latest technology and not to scratch where it is not itching.

But it is only me. Hope you will come right with your needs.

If you intend fitting some other DB and DC fuses etc I would contact Manie at hcdupreez electronics who is a supplier of all different combinations of DB boards some even with inverter.

www.hcdpelectronics.co.za or look on the www.bushpower.co.za for the section for HC du Preez products.

They do supply some of the off road manufacturers with their products. Based in Pta.

These are the specs for the full house unit from hcdpelectronics.co.za. You can also get the Apollo/Hercules DB/chargers from Comet in Boksburg.

If you want to go the route Leon suggested (DB and charger) here is a very nice clever 6 mode charger to look at. It can also be used as a power supply without a battery for water pump, LED lights, charging laptop, tablets and phones. It comes with Bluetooth so you don't have to measure things like volts and amps etc just look on your phone within the about 5m range. You can do all the settings from your phone with the APP.

A major plus is that this charger is ready for Li-Ion type batteries which I belief we will all be using in future as the prices keep on coming down.

Victron do offer some great equipment.

It is one of the 2 I mentioned earlier. Bush power. Co. Za They have lower than the normal retail prices on most of the items they sell. Also great to get some technical advice.

If I knew about this Victron Charger I could have saved my self about R400.

Just bought a National Luna 5A charger from Outdoor warehouse on Saturday.

Hey Guys.

You have all been awesome.

Louis from Louis Caravan Repair Centre in Pretoria came to my help. I was keen to to keep my caravan original. He found the exact charger  that my previous guy let me down on and further gave me a 6months guarantee.

Most certainly  recommend him.

Louis. Thank you
