I recently returned from spending 5 peaceful days at Sanddrift Holiday Resort in the Cederberg. On arrival at the office the reception was very polite and friendly and I was directed to the campsite 1.5 km away and informed to pick a site. Very few people were there, coming and going during the week.
There are about 30 sites with just over half that are grassed and they are getting the grass to grow on the others. 220v, water, dustbin and braai (bring your own grid) is available for each site. The sites are quite large with plenty of space. Most are fully shaded. A climbing structure with a slide and a set of swings is available for the kids, and a river (cold) to swim in. The spartan ablutions are adequate with hot water 24/7 as are washing facilities.
One needs to take entertainment with as kids will soon get bored. There are plenty of hikes and sightseeing in the area, observatory which is open every saturday for stargazing except when close to full moon, Stadsaal caves, Bushman paintings, etc and everything needs a permit which is available at the office. It is very peaceful and quiet there. I had absolutely no complaints. People seem to usually use this campsite as a transit as it is about halfway thru the Cederberg.
Security is non-existant as it is situated in such a remote place and the only criminals are the furry 4-footed ones which I only saw on one of the 5 days. Days are warm and nights are vrek cold at the moment.
For peace 'n quiet its a good place to go. I went via Ceres there and thru Clanwilliam on the way back which are similar in distance about 300 km's BUT BEWARE THE ROADS. DO NOT TAKE A STANDARD ROAD CARAVAN. I broke 3 cupboards, all the doors came off, bent the jockey, the popup "popped up" without damage fortunately and inside the 'van was a mess. It took 6 hours to do 300 km's.
There is no cell nor internet reception in the Wilderness area - what bliss. Remember it is rough country.
Alan thanks for the feedback and the photos are awesome. Glad you mentioned the road conditions.
Thanks Alan.Lovely ophoto's. Brings back nice memories. As I said in the previous thread, when I go there it is tent camping only. I have stayed in their chalets a few times as well.
Thanx all for the comments.
