Kruger always delivers!

It was a long and rewarding day after 3 months of absence. Just a few photos to remind you.

In at Phabeni shortly after sunrise. This little swallow I still have to ID. Not sure if it is a Mosque Swallow?? Help!

Stopped for coffee and rusks at the dam close to the road (can never remember the name) to be greeted by the resident Fish Eagles.

The dam is quite empty. Not sure if it will have water after the winter.

The parking in front of the shop at Skukuza with no green monsters present. Had breakfast by the benches overlooking the river. Still no train on the bridge.

No tourists by the shop.

We the made our way back to Phabeni following the S25 and S26 to join the tar road near Afsaal.

There was a giraffe killed by lions next to the road about 10 km from Croc Bridge. Plenty of cars but no lions to be seen. Wonder if those lions ever returned that afternoon? Squeezed past as I was not prepared to wait for just in case.

Few photos the afternoon.

Last one of Transporter Dam which still has lots of water.

Thanks for sharing Hendrick, nice update.

I am struggling with your Swallow.

The rufous on White-throated's "forecrown is limited to region in front of eyes"

My guess a Juv Wire-tailed Swallow.

Had confirmation on SF bird id thread.

HM - Thanks for sharing. It sounds and look as if you had a very fruitful day in the park. You are privileged to be able to do a day visit to Kruger.

Today, a year ago, we still had 4 nights left of our 39 night stay in the park. We would have spent 9 nights in the park during this past May, but it is postponed to November.

I am pretty confident that the swallow on you photo is a Whitethroated Swallow. It is quite uncommon for them to still be in the south this time of the year as they are summer visitors. But there is also a chance that it can be a European Swallow. I doubt it whether it's a Wiretailed Swallow as the whole top of its head is normally brown.

The name of the dam you cannot remember is the Nyamundwa Dam.

Wire-tailed.... Most probably as it is non migratory but I can't see the wire tails and the wings are blue all the way to the tips?

White-throated is migratory and leaves around end April.

That's quite a distance for a one day excursion.

Good for the soul after so long. Thanks for sharing.

In the meantime, we're going to do a day drive to Rietvlei this coming week.
