We are taking delivery of a licenced rebuilt 2015 Scorpion fold up caravan tonight - to be used if accomodation is required for one night only.

This was a Jurgens Slipstream mk2 - matresses fairly recently re uphostered, side canvass in good condition - roof dull due to age (needs some elbow grease), but in excellent condition - fully converted to 220v. - no wood rot - ideal for fishing.

The only problems viewed, if problems, all gas removed and electrical two plate stove, rally in place of tent and no fridge - one bunk strut broken (easy DIY to replace) - no wardrobe.

We will still use the Caravette on weekends and longer.

Excellent idea David - congratulations. I have been considering a small tent for the same reason, but if I had the space to store something like this .......

Had a Slipstream in 1983 and it was a good start to caravanning. Be careful of the roof supports when lifting the roof. I caught a finger in the hinged section and flattened the finger tip just before leaving on holiday. A lady ran out the doctors room when I opened the dressing and proceded to faint. Had a few stitches so be very careful.
Try and keep it simple

Herman Eikona.....Nie hierdie keer

Het net so wa gehad in 1982.

Gou-gou verkoop.

Nee wat, my contrapsie het drie verskillende waterdigte laae seil boe my kop... Die tent, die "fly-sheet" en 150mm lug-spaceering dan die Awning...

Les geleer

Slightly quicker downhill....
These days a teeny-tiny bit more slightly quicker....

This obviously has disadvantages when comparing to a conventional or fold up caravan - just think about the winter, for example.

However, we did not go into this blind. At one stage we had a Gypsey 5 and bought a fold up from a client in trouble for R3 000 - and made a mistake by selling it for R5 000 when I should rather have sold the Gypsey.

Now to the practicality - Towed it home last night from Rustenburg (103km) . With the Caravette on that particular road, I expect a consumption with the Caravette of around 10.6 to 10.8 km per litre (normal towing anything between 10.4 to 11.6) - managed to maintain a more constant speed, average probably about 10 kph faster,  requiring less gear changes on the hills.

Even though lighter, when half way down the hill, suddenly remembered I was towing .... toooooooo.... fast although only 100kph ........... remember, no over run brakes!

Like other second hand things, has a need of a "bit" of attention - bunk strut mentioned above requires replacing - one white reflector missing on the front - the flange holding the hinge to keep the roof up is stuck (only needs loosening - maybe just oil) - body probably requires a good buff to look more attractive.

Missing? All gas items removed and as can be seen in thepicrures fully elctrified - howevem received a two plate gas and a two plate electric stove - both brand new - no tent but received a rally plus poles - no fridge - no wardrobe (visit required to nearest plastic shop).

Previously, I mentioned that I have forfeited my membership with the Holiday Club - from a financial perspective (not that it is relevant) those levies will reimburse the cash outlay in 16 months.

I am still of the opinion - leave home Saturday morning for cricket - sleep over and return home Sunday afternoon. Ideal accomodation when visiting family with restricted sleeping space.

We may just use it to Bloekompoort  - (wife will be working that week end) without the Landy to make Warren jealous of course  - (actually we like his set up) wink and this may be the start of building up as needs arise, but cannot see this replacing the Caravette.

DAMN! cry ----- so I lost the van.

To cut a long story short, the van could not get police clearance due to a joined A-frame - apparently a from a trailer - this is going to be invetigated and you never know ..... maybe?

Fortunately I did not lose any money on it smile and we were forced at last minute to change plans and quickly pack the Caravette on Friday afternoon for our Limerick Lodge trip. (So it does help to have a plan B) - (see under Potchefstroomdam although nowhere near).

Paddy and Paul - Thanks for the warning - it fell on my wife's shoulder while I was checking to see if the poles were inside.
