Hi all.

Am sure its with shock we all saw the recent photos of Klein Kariba and the devastation there. It got me thinking that my family and I are planning to visit Waterberg Resort next weekend, also in the Bela Bela area.

Now I realise there is a resorts forumn section but it doesn't show any places that are badly affected by weather, rain, fire extra on a short term basis - its more a "what's the resort like" kind of thread.

I thought we could maybe have one thread of a "report a sudden change" that would give travellers up to date info.

What do you guys think?

I heard on the radio that a second dam broke and that Klein Kariba was again flooded. The latest was worse than the first. The industrial area of Warmbaths is also under water

From what I have seen, this is worse than the Laingsburg tragedy. It makes me appreciate how lucky we are. My daughter and family live in Nylstroom and have THANKFULLY not been seriously affected ........ Yet.

Yes I agree, could we have an update on resorts affected by the floods. With the school holidays around the corner and all the the long weekends next month it is vital to have updates. I'm sure all resorts are fully booked for this time period.

Regards,

Stoffel

Wow guys! I go to Ellisras quite often and have seen damage after the previous floods they had. It looks even worse this time. The river is quiet close to town center. Boats to school? that's when you know its serious.

Good luck up there folks

Some good news, I've been in contact with Weesgerus today, 14 March, they say they aren't affected at all. According to the information received, the road from the N1 is fine.

That's a lot of water. I'm glad we were not there when what must have been a wall of water came down.

Brian yes, its is bad i will try and see if i can go to vaaldam tommorow as they also issued a warning to lower areas. The dam is currently over 100% and they are opening s/gates to release high volumes of water. Fortunately, nothing compared with Ellisras and Bella Bella areas, since our area is controlled release.

Just as I was starting to think that I am being paranoid, but mmmmmmmmmmmmm if you look at the weather sites they still predict that there is huge amounts of rain comming for next week, we planned to go camping this school holiday neer Bela-Bela, (already paid in January for the campsite),

Do you guys think it would be silly to cancel in advanced as I know I would loose monies on my payment for cancellation fees, or must I wait and see, pray for the best.

I agree with Stoffel, people that know the resorts or travel past them could you please keep us upto date as sometimes you can't really rely on the news as they might not be that reliable, specially for those resorts that is not affected.

Nooby

Hi all,

we made a booking some months ago already to go camping at Manyane (Pilansberg) for 2 nights only next weekend. Wonder what that area looks like?

One place I would not mind camping at in the next few weeks would be at the Augrabies National Falls Park. The site of the water comming down from the dams when they open the gates will be awesome.
