Pathfinder Turbo
So we are in still at Van Zyls and now have turbo problems on the Pathy to sort out before we can continue. The Turbo stopped functioning a few days ago and after analysis a turbo specialist is removing the turbo to source the and fix, refurbish the turbo. The stealers (dealers) want R55 grand just for the turbo then you still need to have it fitted.!!
Fault code refers to a problem (actuator) and a boost sensor, which when that part is replaced it still does not function. Hoping to get the vehicle back this afternoon.
Hi Brian
Sad news indeed .
I am sure you follow this practice with your vehicle. On start up, just a few seconds to get the oil circulating(especially via the turbo) before driving off and try and keep your revs low until warmed up. On long trips ,before switching off, let it idle down for a good minute or two to cool down the turbo. Changing the oil regularly is not negotiable .
I was blessed to have covered nearly 500k in my 2001 Ford Ranger with no turbo issues at all and following the above guidelines.
Best of luck Brian

Pierre, thanks yes I do but not always when shutting down, will definitely improve on that side.
Hoor of Goldwagen kan help....hulle gewoonlik baie goedkoper
WAARSKUWING:
Kampeer is aansteeklik en verslawend ðŸËÂ

Dankie Geert ek het hulle probeer maar hulle kon nie help nie.
I had a turbo specialist check it out and they refurbished the turbo for me, got the Pathy back today and she is all fixed. So we off next week to Leentjiesklip. Cost was R12000, much better than R55000 so we happy.
Hi Brian,
As a matter of interest did your vehicle go into "Limp" mode when you had the issue?
Why I ask is that I am having problems with the Navara and had the actuator replaced but still the problem persists but only occurs when towing and generally on long uphill climbs. The vehicle will go into limp mode which requires stopping and switching off to reset. Or alternatively will lose power and removing foot from accelerator and reapplying will go like h... again!
Regards
John

Hi John, No never went into limp mode, just a loss of power.
About a year ago there Pathy had the same symptoms your Navara is showing although not while we were towing. Nissan said it was the fuel pump which needed replacing but Nissan did not have any spares. I went to Club23 (Waltloo, in Pretoria) they said the CAT was blocked and causing the problem, not the fuel pump and suggested removing the CAT and deleting it from the system. I had that done the problem went away and I suddenly had improved power and fuel consumption.
This turbo problem suddenly started down here all was fine we went down to the shops and driving away the car had no power. Fault indicated it was the actuator, the specialist said on removal that the turbo veins had got stuck and the shaft was slightly bent. The stuck veins broke the gears on the small motor in the actuator which prevented it from operating.
I have read somewhere that you can have the veins cleaned by using a turbo cleaner try researching that option or have a turbo specialist do it for you will be cheaper than having to go down the route I ended up going.
Good luck let us know how you get it resolved.
Hi Brian,
Thanks for the response.
On recommendation of "specialists", I've also had CAT removed, egr blanked and "tuned" but to no avail. Power is a plenty it's just to keep it there!!
Over the last few months I have Googled local and overseas forums and YouTube to try and obtain an understanding of the workings and possible causes, as the Nissan D40 limp mode is apparently an international thing! But there are many potential sources. It's just to find the one.
Vehicle is going in again on Tuesday to put on dyno and monitor turbo actuator movement.
May I ask who did you take your vehicle to in Cpt?

Took it to Archman Power Diesels in Brakenfell
I had the same problem a few months ago on my X-Trail 2.0 Dci where the vehicle suddenly lost power with excessive fuel consumption.
I expected the worst ?
I connected my Diagnostic Tester and found a failure that the Camshaft Sensor was "Misalighned".
I "Clear & Delete" the failure and drove it for 2x days.
Eventually the problem was gone and could feel that the original power is back.
I reconnected the Diagnostic and noticed that failure was cleared.

Hi John, what was the result of the dyno test ?
Hi Brian.
Apparently turbo issue. Currently in workshop and hope to have it back on the road by Wednesday.
We are planning to travel up via Springbok to Augrabies and Twee Rivieren and back via Karoo NP. Had planned to leave this coming Tuesday but now will hopefully get away the following Monday all going well.
So we are now playing the waiting game.

Hi John, met your brother yesterday :) how is the Navara behaving now. Turbo all fixed?
Morning Brian.
Yip my brother did mention he'd spoken to you.
So they redid the turbo and we got as far as Malmesbury on the first day of our trip and decided to return home after going into limp mode on already about 4 occasions. We unhitched and returned to the workshop were they removed and cleaned some of the sensors. In addition they got a revised ECU software package from their overseas supplier and loaded it.
We eventually got away at about 13h00. Had a few more limp issues but decided to continue to Rondeberg outside Clanwilliam. Strangely enough my biggest concern was Piekenierskloof Pass and there we sailed up without any issue!
And since that first day of our trip, touch wood, we haven't had any issues. Perhaps everything just needed a reset!
Currently at Kgalagadi Lodge and move 5km up the road into the park at Twee Rivieren on Monday for a couple of weeks.
Augrabies Falls was fantastic. Who would have thought when I booked 3 months ago we would have been there at the peak of the flood with a maximum flow of over 5000 cum/sec.
Regards, John

John good news hope the issue is sorted. Glad you enjoying your trip, safe travels. We leave here next Thursday to slowly make our way to Eiland
