Had to go through to George the other day to get parts for the bakkie and decided to check out all the caravan parks between George and Plett on the way back, this is what we found.
George country resort ; On the eastern out skirt of George alongside the N2, after speaking to a very friendly lady at the office we drove through the park. Apart from the permanent section as you come through the gate the park was empty and had that unkept look about it, the permanent section tends to look just that, bordering on an informal settlement and the pensioner monthly rates are a little more then what one would expect to pay, not sure we would be happy staying there.
Victoria bay caravan park; A little more east of George not far from the above park, situated on a plateau quite high above the sea but on the sea front and another section on the other side of the road a little further back, spoke the the lady at the office , they do not have monthly rates and we never drove into the park.
Island lake caravan park; About 2 kms north of Wilderness, after speaking to an elderly couple at the office we walked through the park, a very well kept neat park with reasonable size stands , not a very big park though. apart from 1 long term van there the park was empty, good monthly rates . We would camp here,
Ebb n Flow ; Down the road from Island lake, a sanpark , we drove through the park and then crossed the road and went into the north end of the park. Its a big park , very neat and tidy , we would not mind staying here however the monthly pensioner tariff is quite expensive even after the discount, Island lake down the road has the same surroundings at literally half the price.
Swartvlei caravan park ; A little west of Sedgefield, The park gates were padlocked and the park was empty, there was no sign of life here.
Lake pleasant caravan park ; East of Sedgefield, You know when you drive into a park and it just feels right, well this park does just that, a really well maintained park with a place for everything and every blade of grass in its place. Apart from 2 long term vans here the park was empty, the rates are a little more then what we would like to pay but we would pay it anyway. Alas this park does not fall into our road map................yet.
Buffels Baai caravan park ; west of Knysna, Situated right on the sea with sites so small i dont think our exclusive would fit on any of them, we have learnt , being on the seafront for a few days is fine, living on the sea front for a month or three get to be to much, we avoid these sea front sites.
The above is based solely on what we feel and what fits our life style, we have not stayed at any of the above parks and probably wont as none fit into our current road map .........this time around.
two roads diverged in a wood and i took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.
