Are you sure you want to go there? What I've heard about this once nice park is that you rather stay away.

Rather consider Bontebok National Park - a beautiful setting on the banks of the Breede River - with very neat ablutions (and close to Swellendam).

I agree that Bontebok would be better, just remember that the gate closes at 18h00 and if you are in the town and get back after that time you possibly / probably won't get back in. Make sure from their office they may have a number you can call for them to come open for you. 

Swellendam park was really nice and picturesque but unfortunately no more. We camped there twice and enjoyed it. A while ago we wanted to go in to have look with the possibility of future camping but were told the camp was closed. The pretty cabins seem to be occupied probably on n permenent basis. 

Bontebok camping ground is a very pleasant resort and has the feeling of a KNP bush camp.

There is also a few stands at Umshanti just outside of the town at the Buffeljags Dam. We have stayed there for a week in 2015, before we moved to Swellendam.

Looks like a perfect camping spot- looking at their web page- thanks Brian, it is on my 'to visit' list now.

Last year also checked out Swellendam Caravan Park. 

The lady at the office there did not bother to take her eyes off from her cell, just pointed that we must slide open the gate to go in. 

We checked out the ablutions but could not get in, windows broken. 

Bontebok Park is the way to go as said by most people 

Swellendam caravan park is still definitely open  Attached latest tarrifs and tel numbers.

The question is: "Do you really want to stay there?"

Lance try this number 074 970 5003 it's on the tariff sheet above. But I would rather firt go to either Bontebok or Umshanti and then go into Swellendam and have a look at the conditions at the park before making a decision to camp there.

Unless a miracle and management change at Swellendam?
What I saw last year, I will not go there, but it will be nice for an update of 2024?
