AviList latest bird list
For those of you who keep lists or would like to create your own, a new list combining all the different versions from around the world has been created. Called the AviList.
Southern Africa's portion has been finalized.
We now have 990 bird species in Southern Africa, including the latest addition on the past weekend, being an Upland Sandpiper, 1st for Southern Africa and 4th for Africa. Seen at Cape Point, I tried to see it on Monday, arrived on-site at 11h00 it was last seen at 10h10, I had to leave at 12h00, it was seen at 14h00 again. Sadly last sighting was on Tuesday.
If you would like a copy of the announcement and list email, please send your email to me richardaj@mweb.co.za

Furthermore, it is an interesting hobby that one can participate in at all levels of enthusiasm, beginners very welcome.
It is a very sharing community.
When active and birding id confidence is up then the next step up is becoming a citizen scientist and atlassing or logging birds on local SABAP2 or internationally on eBird.
All questions are welcome.
Checkout SABAP2 below:

Thanks Richard for sharing.
I will download that AviList when we are home again. We use Roberts Multimedia for our birding and it works very well for Southern Africa. As a result We have about 100 species from other countries which we can not add to our life list.
Birding adds a new dimension to game viewing. So does plants and reptiles.
Groete,
Paul
The Golden Pipit is now at two places in Kruger. One on the Lower Sabie Tshokwane road and the other on the Babalala Pafuri road near the power lines. Could not find either. Would be a lifer for us.
Groete,
Paul
Agree on other 'things' to see, basically why i started birding.
iNaturalist is a good site to log all things nature and users assist with id of all the pics you post, birds, insects, plants, animals etc etc Again all the postings are considered Citizen Science and helps build up data bases of all things in Nature.
