Caravan spots near Britstown?
Hi,
Any good caravan resorts (or stop over spots) in or around Britstown?
En route from Nieuwoudtville to Pietermaritzburg.
There is a lovely clean stop over 20 km north of Britstown called Kambro with a few camp sites and chalets It is situated next to the R12 It also has a small shop for basic provisions Have stopped over many times in the past

Welcome to the forum. I can second Kambro we overnighted there Sept 2022.
I second Kambro. You cannot go wrong.

Sweetfontein is a delightful guest farm. And as far as I recall they have a camping site also. Highly recommended as a stop over. I see you’re en route from Niewoudtville. Papkuilsfontein near Niewoudtville is a must.

Frans what are the road conditions like from Niewoudtville to Papkuilsfontein. Can one do it with an inroad caravan ?
Hi Brian. Yes I think so. We drove it on my wife’s car in May, and it was fine. Planning on going there in my Stealth gravel roader in September, but would happily take a normal road van. Just take it easy, and if you want to play safe deflate your tyres a little. We love Papkuilsfontein.

Thanks Frans, we have been to Niewoudtsville camped at Groenrivier. There is so much to see in that area, I would not mind going back. So we‘ll add this as an option.
Thank you everyone - gosh - this is a great forum!
we are staying at Papkuilsfontein - leaving there towards Britstown.

Please give us an update on the road conditions if you can. Are you towing an on-road or off–road caravan ?
Safe travels
Towing a SW tourer. Will let you know, but perhaps someone is driving this road before us (which is only in August)!

Apologies I misinterpreted your post assuming that you were already there and about to leave for Britstown.
If you look, on google maps, at the T junction of the R354 and the R27 the R354 is gravel and the map data (imagery) is 2025 ? so I doubt it being tar.
Same with the R354 at the Sutherland end.
Thanks Brian. That's a pity, so back to the drawing board. Our Skipper is n gravelroader but such roads can also be bad.

The road between Sutherland and Calvinia is a scenic Karoo route -including the small village of Middelpos.

Brian, I know the condition on a dirt road changes but when you travelled, was it suitable for a gravel roader? When was this?

Fred I haven‘t travelled on the road – I just looked at google maps street view at the junctions at each end of the R354 and they are gravel, which led to my deduction the that road is gravel. Google maps do not have street view along that section of the R354.
Hopefully someone can give you a better update. I would not pull my van on a gravel road that long – approx 140Km
Rooidam, net buite Britstown is ook mooi. Hulle het privaat ablusies.
