Buying first caravan (ADVICE)
Hi!
Seeking advice on purchasing on old caravan to turn into a stationary semi permanent home/rental in one location - with external living area (so tent is not important).
Any advice would be appreciated but currently looking at bigger hard top caravans from late 80’s to early 2000’s.
Happy to do a bit of work on the caravan too.
Are hard tops the way to go?
Is it a huge cost to transport a couple hundred kms if the caravan is not roadworthy?
How easy it is to relicense to a non vehicle?
Any recommendations for models? Currently looking at a gypsey 5 double axel from early 2000!
Not knowing what price you are looking at, have you perhaps thought of Wilk caravans as the are nice and large and the older ones are not that pricy.
Welcome Zoe.
Price range and size will determine what you buy.
The 1980's to early 1990's in a large caravan will give you, Wilk Topaz, Wilk Amethyst, Sprite Sunway, Gypsey 5, Jurgens Exclusive, Jurgens Gazelle. I would not do pop top for long term.
To de-register the caravan the owner must go in person to a licensing/roadworthy (Government) office and submit the following:
-
- a certified copy of your identity document
- a certified copy of proof of ownership of the motor vehicle (title holder)
- supporting documentation if required
- the vehicle’s registration certificate.
- Complete the Application for deregistration of vehicle (ADV) form.

Paul

The Wilk Topaz is a pop top.
You can look also to the Wilk Emerald.
