And so it came to be........ (a new 2nd hand toy)
Looking back how time has flown. February 2024 we contemplating between two off-road trailers. The Summit Everest and a Metalian and then all the others you suggested. We hanged tight and them came a fully equipped 2022 Summit Everest on the market. If your name is 'Cliffort' we bought your 2022 Summit Everest.
Thus far, setting up the Everest is easier than the Swing. The full Everest camp experience will be tested this coming long weekend in September 24.
We will not be able to do 4 x 4 off-roading, but I think we should reach some destinations a little bit more remote. Lets first do the camping with electricity.
*** Any tips, tricks, advice etc. when towing, setting up, power management, fridge tricks, battery maintenance, battery to stay always on when not in use, etc. I am a rookie with some basic knowledge, with all this 12V stuff and switch between gas and electricity, connecting a solar panel, travel with the water tank full water,.....
Sometimes this basic knowledge is dangerous, hence the question for advice to you who have more experience. I was briefed how it all works and advice given but more info is always welcome to learn from.
We do not have power running from the bakkie battery to still operate the fridge while traveling. We however have a Namib Flexopower 240 watt solar panel. I was thinking to strap that on top of the trailer to still power the fridge whilst traveling. Practical or not? Or I was thinking to get a solid solar panel and strap that to the trailer. Practical or not?
Its out there, through it at me please. Comments in Afrikaans is also welcome.
Hooked, now we can go camping.
Hennie in all my years of caravanning we have never set up our rig to power the fridge on our travels and very often we used to travel for as long as six hours to our destination. All we did was turn the fridge on a day prior to our start to ensure that it was cold and packed the fridge and we never had any issues where the freezer or any meat had defrosted and the beers in the fridge are always cold on arrival. However if your arrival time is early evening and there is no 220 and the fridge does not run on gas then you may want to consider powering the fridge during travel time.
Ek sit ook my yskas so 1 dag voor die tyd aan en maak seker dat die vleis hard gevries is.
By die bestemming later die dag, maklik 8 ure later, sal jy die vleis nog steeds gevries vind.
