Relocated to Riverside Counrty Club - Modderrivier
So the ride here on the N12 was ok just loads of coal trucks between Modderrivier and Britstown . The road surface has a few potholes but not too bad. Especially in the southerly direction which is the side of the road where the trucks are loaded. The northerly direction is still pretty good as the trucks are empty in that direction.
Campsite very nice overlooking the Riet River ablutions are pretty good as well decent size showers etc and clean ð. Going to visit the battle sites tomorrow and then off to Bloem on Thursday.
Riverside Country Club is a nice park to stay over - maybe even a day or two longer if you want to do what you plan for tomorrow. We had two overnight stay-overs at Riverside. Very nice owners (if they are still the owners) - Philip and Lucy van Dyk. The last time we stayed there was end-April 2019. We camped on the terrace behind the ablutions - next to the swimming pool. At that occasion the Riet River was in flood and Philip had to remove his pumps urgently while we were there.
On the one photo hereby attached, you can see the drift debris coming downstream. And it seems the same dog is still around.

We are thinking of maybe an extra day as we also want to visit the Mokala National Park just outside of town ð
Looks good thanks Brian. Thinking of passing by there next year, so that we can pop into Mokala. Had very good birding there June last year. How are the birds at Riverside?
Living the dream

100% worth it to go to Mokala. What a great National Park. It's actually a pity that you are not able to visit Motswedi camp site with your fancy van. The roads in the park are normally quite reasonable, but the 21 km from the N12 to the main gate can be very rough from time to time. We stayed numerous times at Mosu Lodge. I used to visit the silos at Modderrivier at least twice a year and used Mosu as my base. While I worked at the silos, my wife enjoyed herself watching the game coming to the water hole. We normally stayed at the chalet nearest to the water hole where you have a good sight from the stoep. If you report at Reception at Mosu, give my regards to Elsa Heyns or if you first go to Lilydale, the lady in charge is Bettie Renoster.

Unfortunately Philip has passed ð§ away and Lucy has now put the resort on the market.
Chris not seen too many here but we have not been out looking partly because we were just relaxing in the van, it's cold and windy atm. Hoping to see many in Mokala toorrow.
If it was me I would have done a bit of fishing.
Looks great

Ons het ook daar oorgestaan (baie lank terug), Willie (stigter van CP.com) en sy vrou was ook daar, lekker gekuier.
Oppad na die volgende kamp.

What is the distance between Riverside and Kambro

Thanx. Have to go and get the inlaws from Cape Town in December. They come to stay with us.
Need places to stay over on our way there and back. Towing a trailer with their goodies on it.

Leon - you cannot go wrong if you consider staying over at Kambro. Sounds if you will rather be staying over in fixed accommodation. Kambro's chalets are tops.

Brian - I am interested to read your feedback on Mokala.

Yes will be doing that. Don't have a Van any more and oupa and ouma will have it difficult in a tent

The staff were very friendly and helpful explaining everything to us - the can and can't do's.
Saw lots of buck and great birds at the Stoffdam birdhide.
Will post some pictures shortly. Unfortunately the Rhinos were not seen by us. If ever anyone is in that vicinity I would recommend taking a day and visiting the park but I would not pull my or any other caravan along those approach roads.
Please can someone tell me what buck is that in the last two pictures ð¤
Check the horns on this one ð¤

The last 2 are Tsessebe.
Nice to see water in the dam at the hide. In June last year it wax dry.
But, lots of nice birds were drinking at the bottom of the water tank behind the toilet.
Yes the access roads are bad. Been like that since we first visited about 10 years ago. Then the inside roads were powdery. Years later there was still dust in the car, Volvo.
