Thought we would go check out the Keurbooms lagoon caravan park this afternoon, the sign on a board at the entrance said report to reception first. reception was closed [ 1. 15 pm ] , figured most probably lunch time and continued to the park entrance where the boom gate was open and no one in site so we drove in.

This is a really big park , all sites well grassed with sizes ranging from small to quite big with a row of sites on the lagoon edge some with wooden fencing around i would assume are  private sites. A  garden crew was clearing the aftermath of the storm from 2 days back and overhaul the park appeared to be in good nick.

However one thing was missing,  campers ...... not one caravan, tent , or person as in zero, zilch, nothing....  We spoke to a security guy we found wandering around and asked if they were closed, he said no , just quite.

We had contacted this park late last year i think it was and asked them about a stay over there, there reply was they dont do monthly pensioner stays and quoted us the normal rates [ i cant recall what they were ] . infact they referred us to the forever resort saying they do monthly rates there, Me thinks they need to re think this.

two roads diverged in a wood and i took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.

Been like that for years now.  They are fully booked over holidays and empty the rest of the year.  Munisipal park.

Pretty sure that it is privately owned. Their bank account details are in the name of a CC.

We camped there in March four years ago and not in school holidays or Easter and it was busy. We arrived there late Sunday afternoon and got the last waterfront site available. The interior part of the park has a few campers but that section not too full.

Lovely park and we have been going there since the 1970's.

Camped there once a few years ago , not bad and fairly well kept but launching a small dingy became difficult when the beach washed away so we went to Forever , you can`t compare the two , Forever is much better . We did enqire about the pensioners rate and the owner then said the pensioners complain and moan too much and he would rather not have them at the site. We have been going to Forever for the last 6 years during pensioners months Feb and Mar and the place is usually packed , this year we arrived on 28th Feb and there were about 15 sites open the busiest we have ever seen . They offer pensioners rates and even though we are not pensioners we get a good monthly rate which works out to roughly 10 days cheaper than paying a daily rate for a month.

This was a few years before covid and he may change his mind now not sure . I can see his point even though it may be wrong , we always go when the pensioners are at Forever and believe me there are many moan gatte who have nothing better to do no matter how well the park is run .

Mark my words. The majority will have one or other excuse why they cannot take part.

The only thing i have noticed when camping in a park with a group of pensioners is that they tend to scrap amongst themselves, they tend to form groups which frown apon one another, no more was this so blatant then at green fountains last year,

However, even before this trip started we were always a couple that kept pretty much to ourselves and this pattern continues on the trip aswell, we kinda keep everyone where we can see them.

two roads diverged in a wood and i took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.

Must agree , at Forever there is the Bo dorp under the trees and Onder dorp in the open areas and it is strange how it just works out like that . I`m in the Bo dorp and the one thing I noticed is if someone rocks up and puts the radio on or plays music within 15 minutes it is switched off as they get the evil eye from other campers. Don`t forget that these clicks are formed due to them travelling together in a group , from Plett they go to PE , East London , Scottburgh , Richards Bay , Kruger the west coast and then start all over again.
