I am trying to DIY some new poles for my awning. I need advice on the best way to get some 25mm sleeves to stick on the ends of some 22mm poles so that they fit snugly into the corner brackets.

Google told me to use super glue but that was useless.

I have heard of Gorilla Glue but I don't want to fork out R150 at Builders if it does not work.

Any advice would be most welcome

Thanks.

I'm no expert, but perhaps you can consider using pop rivets.

Thanks but I don't think that they will then fit into the corner brackets as it is pretty tight.

Maybe if I used longer sleeves🤔

Glue the sleeves into the brackets and then just slip the poles into them. No need to fix them to the poles.

Thanks. I thought of this as a possibility too 🙂

Glue the sleeves into the brackets and then just slip the poles into them. No need to fix them to the poles.

In stead of using glue what you can do is to wrap some insulation tape around the pieces that you want to attach to the pole ends.  Then insert them in the corner brackets as Flip suggested.  They will stay there and then the 22mm can fit snugly in them.

No need for the glue poles on poles.

I have done the same to mine.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I am going to try the insulation tape thing and stick the sleeves into the brackets.

O.K. I put the sleeves into the corner brackets as Flip suggested and used insulation tape as Leon suggested and it worked perfectly.

Thanks again.

Squeeze both  pole ends  in a vice or water pump pliers,

so that they become slightly oval.

Put together and give them a twist, that should hold quite nicely.

Note. Don't overdo the squeezing , or else the ovals will not fit other joints, like spiders etc.

I have squeezed my down poles similar to your suggestion.

When I insert one into the other, I give it a slight twist which holds them togetheras if one pole i.s.o. falling out especially during set up.

Reon,

Use Sikaflex on the"bush", on the outside for the corner fittings or on the inside if you want them permanent on the 22mm poles-end.

Leave them overnight and your problem is solved
