Published by Ryan Bubear on 29.05.2020   Volkswagen says it will create the second-generation Amarok by “adapting” Ford’s upcoming new Ranger bakkie.  The Wolfsburg-based firm confirmed the news in a statement outlining the latest “landmark” in the Volkswagen-Ford global alliance.   In the statement, VW said its supervisory board had “approved further contracts under the co-operation with Ford Motor Company” announced in 2019.  “The next milestones in the vehicle projects are anticipated to be implemented in near the future with the signatures of both companies. Three projects in the areas of electrification and commercial vehicles are planned to be realised as a first step,” the statement said.  Referring to the second-gen Amarok (without actually naming it), the German company said “a midsize pickup developed by Ford” would be “adapted by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles in selected markets”.   In March 2020, VW released the first teaser sketch of the second-generation Amarok (prompting this render). At the start of 2019, the two firms announced the first “formal agreements in a broad alliance” that would include the Blue Oval brand engineering and building "medium-sized" bakkies "for both companies”.  That initial joint statement from the two brands indicated the first bakkies built under the alliance would hit the market “as early as 2022”.

I have no gripes with such an arrangement. Both companies produce good drive trains.  What I wonder about is whether the hybrid vehicle (that is a VW/Ford mix) can be an Amarok.  The article refers to a 'midsized pickup', but Amaroc rather falls in the big size, as do the Ranger.  So we are perhaps looking at a complete new class smaller vehicle, perhaps in 'n 3/4 or half ton catagory.

Ek wonder of samewerking tussen Ford en Toyota dalk ook moontlik is. Dink net, 'n Toyota met 'n moderne masjien van Ford!  Moet net 'n wenner wees.  En dan kan jy mettertyd ook die bakwerk vervang met Ford s'n, dan het 'n 'n perfekte bakkiewink.

Ek "root" altyd vir die "underdog" Ford is die "underdog" van Toyota, wat verkoope aan betref. So, ek "root" vir Ford. As die een vervaardiger by n' ander kan leer en sodoende n' beter produk lewer dan is ek daarvoor. Kyk maar vir Land Rover. Sorry, Land Rover het niks ge-leer nie well of hulle kan nie onthou nie. Kompetiesie is goed maar wat die eind resultaat moet wees is beter waarde vir geld. Meer bekostigbaar met die maximum aan offer.

As VW en Ford dit saam "beter" kan doen dan koop ek hom.

Die SA publiek is baia kliek georionteerd. Toyota is the flavour of the day, al vir n' lang tyd. Absolute niks fout met hulle nie.....ek ry n' Pajero.

Sou Ford en VW saam smelt met bakkies gaan dit bo alle twyfel n effek hê op Toyota se so called herverkoop waarde. So as jy n Toyota besit en jy het hom omdat rely op herverkoopwaarde het jy nou genoeg tyd om n verandering te maak of jy gaan regtig daai Toy moet ry vir tien jaar.

So as die een iets beter as die ander een doen, dan kan Volkswagen by Ford leer hoe om electrical te doen en Volkswagen kan Ford leer hoe om voertuie te laat ophou rook.

VW en Ford het beide fantastiese engine en electroniese tegnologie. Definitief beter as my Pajero. Dit gaan n' wonderlike resultaat wees as hulle n' AmaRang kan bou.

In Amerikaanse terme waar groot bakkies dubbel agterwiele het is die huidige Ranger en Amararok heel waarskynlik "mid sized".

Met die weg beweeg van binnebrand engins af na batterye voorsien ek dat so 'n samewerking nie op tradisionele engins en aandryf stelsels gefokus sal wees nie, aangesien dit waarskynlik kortsigtig sal wees gesien in die lig van die kapitale investering wat vereis sal word, maar eerder battery aandrywing gefokus sal wees.

Porche het alreeds 'n vierdeur weergawe van die Panamera op die mark. Porche behoort aan Volkswagen. Nou is die vraag, stel Ford in die Volkswagen tegnologie beland, en Volkswagen in die Ford aanleg vir middel-grootte bakkies vir hulle Amerikaanse mark, aangesien battery platforms amper "one size fits all" tipe tegnologie is, of is dit eerder "one technology fits all"?

Vir Suid Afrika kan dit dalk beteken dat slegs bakwerke hier gebou sal word.

Wat dit aan pryse gaan doen met die verwagte wisselkoers weet nugter.

Hoe sê die slim mense? Na Covid 19 sal niks meer dieselfde wees nie!

Ek het êrens gelees die genoemde Ford/VW bakkies word nog nie oorweeg vir elektriese aandrywing nie.  Ek kan insien dat dit so ietwat van 'n probleem is.  Hoewel meeste bakkies nooit van die teerpad afgaan nie, is daar wel van hulle wat vir werkdoeleindes en rowwe terrein gebruik word waar herlaaifasiliteite nie geredelik beskikbaar is nie.  Heelwat water sal waarskynlik nog in die see moet loop voor hierdie probleem 'n oplossing het.  Maar ek is angstig opgewonde oor die vooruitgang wat met elektriese aandrywing gemaak word. Na my mening houn dit baie voordele in.

Hulle lek miskien olie, maar hulle rook hom nie. Ok, die dieselenjins so bietjie as jy hom druk.
