are there any recommended pensioner friendly caravan parks inland of PE, looking ahead for the last quarter of next year, dont really want to be in the mainstream as we were this year.

two roads diverged in a wood and i took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.

it is a bit of a tough one,  I doubt there is pensioner friendly in that area. Someone I know who is a full timer went to Willows caravan park in Port Alfred ( not Port Elizabeth) for December peak season due to lower rates, It’s a municipal park though and  it’s on the coast and you would be going backwards on your road map.  I once pop in , it looked fairly decent, and it has a River frontage .

I hope you come right.

George,

I would seriously consider a place like Green Fountain Caravan Park, just 7 km out of Port Alfred. They have private ablutions and are close enough to launching sites for your purposes. The willows in Port Alfred is a Municipal Park and does need attention. Security MAY also be an issue.

This year, like a lot of places, Green Fountains was not full over December/January and I really do think, that they will be working harder on their price structures and accommodating pensioners in this coming year. We popped in there and had a good chat to the lady in charge, giving our opinions and the requirements for drawing in the grey haired campers.

We are THINKING of spending part of March/April there, but this is not yet finalized, as we were supposed to be going to the Mossel Bay area, but are leaving for Namibia towards the end of April, so do not want to travel unnecessarily far from East London, before we start preparing for the Namibian Trip. We will see you for a chat, after your arrival in East London...

If you are like me, inland means getting away from the masses, sea and wind. I would look at  Sitrusoewer in Kirkwood. Best grass I have ever seen.

My favourite would be Innikloof outside Hankey. Small, quiet and best of all. No cellphone. 35 knots of Westerly and you don't know it.

I don't know if they are "pensioner friendly".

Cannon Rocks is a holiday town that fills up at Xmas time, and I think that is what George is trying to avoid.

Sitrusoewer is on the Banks of the Sundays River and as mentioned is covered by a layer of thick khukhuya grass. The wind can be a factor at this camp and your best protection would be on the western side of the camp. This is close to the self catering units and the bar/restaurant, if I remember correctly.

I also do not think that they would have long stay/pensioners rates, but it costs nothing to send mail and ask...
