I am looking for a good all-round pensioner caravan experience at parks that appreciate pensioners. I am new to this but I am sure that there are people out there that have got something to share, however small. I am interested in caravanning on a permanent basis, you know, a month here, 3 months there type of thing. Where do you go in winter, where do you go over high seasons to escape the high rates etc? What parks offer good rates? I would appreciate any feedback.
My favourite things to do in my caravan.
Relax, reflect and make plans.

Hi Smarque.
Karridene in KZN on the south coast is very pensioner friendly. The rates are really cheap.
Karridene also host the Penny Pinchers (who are all pensioners }every quarter.
Shelly Beach Caravan park has very good rates for pensioners who want to stay a month and more.
Another popular park for pensioners is Rocky Bay.

Alistair welcome to the forum.

Most resorts will offer pensioner rates and even better ones for month or longer stays. However you need to plan and shop around for the holiday periods especially over the Christmas period. Coatal resorts over Christmas are usually a no no.

Rates range from R850 to R 3000 pm depending on what you want from the resort and where it's located.

Do not forget "the one on the beach", Scottburgh Caravan Park. Close to all the amenities. We have been here close on 3 months now and still enjoying it.

Hi Alistair welcome to the Forums. My folks have been caravaning as pensioners now for about 20 years and when they book or arrive at a place they ask for pensioner discount and 95% of the time they get it.

Hi Elize. I see you joined just 5 hours ago. I have people giving me a welcome now I can welcome you. Yes new beginnings are have so many wonderful opportunities and options. I am staying at Dragon Peaks Mountain Resort at the moment where I have been for the past 2 months. This is the most marvelous place and has a sense of peace that is unexplainable, if that makes sense. I am contemplating a move away over high season but haven't made up my mind in which direction. Yes I too have a leaning to head off into the direction of the Cape.

Hi and welcome to both of you.   We have been touring the country and some of our neighbouring countries for more than 10 years and have no intention to stop any time son!!

Wonderfull life and you meet lots of lovely people.

We keep record of the Parks we visit on our website www.flipentilla.com and Tilla's diary is available on www.flipentilla.co   We do not show rates and tarrifs on the website. as it is just not possible to keep it upto date.  We will however start marking the parks where we enjoyed a monthly rate, as we are getting a lot of requests for this info.

Feel free to contact myself or Tilla by E-Mail should you require further help or information.

As popular coastal resorts get full over the December holidays, you will probably not find discounts easily.  We camped at Strandsfontein near Gansbaai a few months ago and discovered that they do cater for such campers over this period with affordable camping.  Strandsfontein is a splendid camp although the special pensioners' section is in an area seperate from their normal camp but I think still quite acceptable.  I would advise you to confirm a camping space just about yesterday wherever you plan to stay.

You will battle to find any coastal resort which offer stands below R3,000 over the December holidays and ever less that will allow pets over that period.

Your only bet will be small inland municipal parks like Albertinia, but remember that these places are not 5 star facilities!!

I am not doing the permanent camping thing yet but would also recommend that you travel in land during the festive seasons.  You will surely find better rates there.

After the holiday rush is over you will have the sea resorts all to yourself.
