I'm in need of advice about fitting an aircon to my 1992 Sprint. The double bed is on the nose cone end. What are my options? Anybody else perhaps have a unit fitted to the baby caravan?

Welcome Jeffrey. Contact your nearest Campworld. They can recommend an installer and he will then advise you on your caravans compatability.

I have never heard of a caravan that can not be fitted with an aircon.

Contact CJ Aircons in Pretoria....they do caravan aircon installations for a couple of years now and should give you the right recommendations

They fitted mine in the Exclusive. No problems.

Thank you for the welcome and the advice. CJ  can do the installation for me. But now its got me thinking, if we take to the camping thing we might end up buying a newer caravan in the not to distant future, perhaps a portable unit might be the answer. (For now)

Yes that works. I started like that and still have the portable unit and use it in my house. It is a job to load and unload it and set it up. That is why we went the permanent installation route.

Be carefull when you choose a portable unit that it is the Tropical one that works in 45 degrees. I have a Goldair 14000 BTU & it never stops working. I had others before that and they stop cooling at about 35 deg C. Also if you can find one with two pipes. One to eject the hot air and the other to draw in the air that is being ejected (the condenser must have its own air, in and out). I modified mine to do that. It makes a huge difference. The split unit works like that, the condenser is outside the caravan, in and out is outside the caravan.

For me the aircon is close to as essential as the mover. :)

Enjoy your camping.

Paul

Welcome Jeffrey,

You might also try Pretoria Oos Caravans to fit an aircon.

They supplied & installed ours in the surfer, which I think is about the same size as your van.

They did an excellent job at a very good price, probably because he works from home on a small-holding and can keep costs down. Also does the work himself.

The portable aircon worked well for us in the Classique. It stood in the tent with the  cool air blowing through the side window into the caravan.  The pipe with the hot air I tucked in under the caravan skirt and it blew in under the caravan.

With a silver sail over the caravan and tent roof both the caravan and tent area cooled down nicely if I open the caravan door as well.  The cool air started to circulate in at the window out at the door into the tent.  With your small caravan and full tent this effect will be bigger.

Another way to use the portable aircon is to place it in the floor space where the dinette table is.  The pipe and plastic vent is usually supplied with the aircon.  Make a hole in the floor and fit the vent there and connect the pipe to it.  The hot air is then blow out under the caravan as well.

With a popup roof caravan you need not open a window for air ventilation.
