We were members of the forum about 5 years ago. Was interested in the Skipper Oyster then and have now ordered the T.
There are plenty of places to camp in the Baviaanskloof.
There is a Lodge there with a nice reasoably priced camp on green grass, even in the drought. One of the first farms when entering from the Willowmore side is their information office, but will not give you advice, as to what is the best camp, as they are all looking for bussiness. Most of the farms have camp sites, but then Cape Nature also has Yellowwood Forest Camp, Komdomo, Doodsklip and Rooihoek which are bush camps with the consevation fees, which ypou will have to pay when entering from the Patensie side or exiting on that side.
I presume that you will be entering and exiting from the Willowmore side?
Depending on your towing combination, the road from the Patensie side could be a little rough, but not impossible, depending on your expertise levels. It is also very narrow in places, so you need to be on the lookout for oncomming traffic, from a long way back, so the you can find a place to pass. Reversing could be challenging on some of those places.
Hi
I can highly recommend Doringkloof - very nice campsite with green lawn , and a nice dam you can swim in.
they even have a small shop selling ice etc
Its on the Willowmore side of the pass.
We spent a wonderful new year weekend there last year
Baviaanskloof is the one area our friends want to rough it on the holiday so no 5 star facilities that 3 day stop, just the toilets. Will look at the Dooringskloof site. What else do you recommend visiting in Baviaanskloof vacinity.
Just go and enjoy. Drive stop and chat to people. There are easy trails to walk, the campsites are on reserve ground or farms, so plenty of places to walk and things to see. Even the Police station was neat, trim and proper and looked like a gardeners home. Beautiful place to visit. I think that most camp sites are more bush camping, but all do have showers, which does not prevent you from swimming in the many dams and rivers. The water is generally cold, because most originates through run-off from springs in the mountains. Drive slowly and look to your hearts content. This is a tourist orientated place, so they will not take exception...
One of the BEST places to stay is in one of the Makkedaat-caves cave chalets. You MUST NIT miss this fantastic place! Look it up on the web.

See how the built the rooms into the caves and against the cliffs.
