Know this topic has been discussed and argued about ad infinitum over the years. But apart from changing to 14 inch and all the issues such as installing spacers for the axle I would like to know which tyre brand you would recommend. I had commercial Kumho's on my van with one blowing out last year on the way to Scotties, when returning home I noticed the other Kumho looks as if its steelbelt broke, pieces of wire sticking out on the sides and part of the thread much higher than the rest (think it explains why the one that blew out lost its thread leading to the blow out, guess I was lucky to reach home!).

Now with the annual trip down to KZN coming up next month I need to replace both tyres. Spare is a hifly which I bought last year, see some places here in Pta also sell Federal and Nankang, all are Chinese manufactured (but then many of the so-called better brands are nowadays also made in China). Any suggestions what to buy? I don't want to touch Kumho again, any experiences with HiFly or Federal?

I agree except the so-called premium brands no longer supply 13 inch commercial tyres making one dependent on unknown brands such as those I mentioned. When I bought the Kumho's (which by the way are standard on most new Hyundai vehicles (and hence seen as a good brand) I thought as much. One giving up the ghost is one thing but two within a few hundred kilometres? So its either Hi-Fly or Federal or Nankang (all made in China), what I'm after is experiences by people who had one of these brands on their vans and their experiences with them (all are by the way 8-ply commercial with a 670kg rating per tyre which is fine for a Fleetline L), ironically the Kumho's are the most expensive of the lot!

Jorg, before I did the 14" conversion, I was using the 13" Nankang which did a few trips down to TO and I had no problems with them. I actually looked at the Khumo but decided on the Nankang. It just looked the better tyre.

Jorg so klompie maande terug het ek die draad oor onbekende name geplaas. Daar was goeie terugvoer oor Achilles. Supaquick by The Mall @ Reds kan hulle ook voorsien.

So as die rubber beweeg hou dit seker goed.

Ek sal so vêr ek kan hou by dit wat ek ken.

Sonder Jesus is ek niks! ! ! !
