Like Leon we also on Netflix but with 10Mb ADSL line - no fibre here by us yet yell

There are some decent data only mobile packages around for when we go away for longer periods but usually don't bother especially if only away for a week or so.

My dish is currently a white elephant on the roof of the van which locates the signal automatically. Where we shrouded out I used the portable but this was very seldom. Both are the smaller dish but we were always able to get HD without problems.

Ek het vir my 'n ou kamera driepoot gaan soek by pandjies winkel.

Sien jy is klaar.

My camp decoder is registered with DSTV as a holiday home decoder. The daily subscription is R26.97 when activated. I would occasionally deposit an amount into my main account and then ask DSTV to transfer it to my holiday account. So that there always remain a credit on the holiday account.

That is how I would understand it Leon....which is not what I need.

If only I could subscribe to one of the business packages I would be sorted. But you must have a CC to qualify for that. They have exactly the channels I want at half premiums price.

We have been without DSTV at home for 5 yrs and have not missed it. If on the move I would want it on again in the caravan. But not @ home as well. I have a 10Meg fiber uncapped connection at home...watching sport is my only problem. But Multichoice monopoly of that is coming to an end!

Paul

Paul you are lucky to have fibre @ home. Have you looked into other LTE mobile options like those from Afrihost and Axxess - they are month to month contracts and may be suitable. We used them while we toured although it was not LTE at that stage.

Brian, with mobile data as my connection method I still need a DSTV subscription if I want DSTV. I can buy data bundles for my everyday internet but to do entertainment streaming one needs uncapped which costs R600 plus per month. Also, the mobile coverage where I go is poor or non existent. In Kruger, for instance, the camps have 3G at best. Skukuza has LTE but I don't go there.

Paul

Paul as long as you have a decoder registered with Multichoice you can activate at any time, anywhere and also select the package of your choice.

Thanks Errol. I have one registered but last time I could activate from the said date until the end of that month. I went and paid pro-rata at Checkers and then phoned Multichoice who activated my decoder for the rest of the month.

I see LNB's are single feed. So no one connects HD or PVR in their caravans. Or do I understand the two cable LNB feed wrong?

I have an Explorer decoder at home with a smart LNB and that only had a single cable from dish to decoder.

I could do all the feature I wanted to when is was still activated.

The small dish only have a single point original LNB that comes with it.  If you think about using the explorer decoder then you should in any case go for the larger dish as the small dish will limit the HD and signal to the decoder.

Or thats how I understand the installer when we moved to Centurion.

Thanks Leon. My PVR decoder, about 5 yrs old, has two feeds from the LNB. Maybe now with the smart LNB one feed is enough to give the same functions as what the dual feed provided. Apparently the latest Explorer decoders have multiple receivers for Catchup, dual view, and PVR (watch one and record another) each function on a different Intermediate Frequency. The decoder receives them separately, per function...I hear so?

Yes, to receive HD a bigger dish is required so that the signal levels are higher to provide the extra bandwidth "throughput" required for HD. (same as for a WiFi booster). I will rather go for a 60cm or larger dish. That way there will be less chance of loss of signal and I can get HD.

Paul

Well at camp I have two decoders connected to a twin LNB. One decoder is the primary and the other one is for ExtraView. For Extraview you will be charged  a maximum fee of R95 and or a daily rate of R3.17.

A friend of mine had a surplus 60cm dish and DSTV standard single cable LNB lying in his back yard and gave it to me.

I ordered my Satellite Finder on Vatbaia.com and tried it today. My first attempt with my two old SD decoders (DSD 1131 & DSD 3U (DSD 1132)) was unsuccesfull (I used the same wall mount power supply). There is never any 13V coming out of the decoder towards the LNB and the red & green LED's flash and the amber stays on permanently. No video, no remote function, no 13V, no nothing. I then connected my HD PVR 2P and after "booting" it put out 13V to the LNB. It took me a short while to find the DSTV 68.5E Intelsat-7/10/20 satellite/s and set up the antenna (I think IS-20 is the only one in service now). I am not subscribed, so that is where my excersise stopped. The Satfinder Lite app on IOS also helped tremendously and works like a dream! For now I used a garden fork for mounting the antennae. If the soil is soft this method is very simple and worked ok. No DSTV in Satara & Pilanesberg. :)

Why does the old decoders do this? The power supply puts out 12.96V (no load).

Paul

Paul the same happened to a friend of mine in Hartenbos a couple of months ago. He was told by the agent that they stopped broadcasting to the older type decoders. He then bought a new decoder (single view) from Game and managed to get him on the air again. Maybe your old single view decoders falls into that category. Only my guess.

Thanks Piet. A friend of mine has exactly the same decoder and it is working. So, I took my decoder there and plugged it into that power supply....and it worked. I see the new power supplies for the DSD 1131/2 are now are 2A i.s.o. 1.5A. Maybe more power is needed after a software upgrade?

Problem solved.
