Do you still attend it or has been deleted from your to attend list when it comes to expos?

A friend of mine advised me that it has lost it glory, it likes “china mall” of some kind.

I haven’t been there since 1999, I planning a family trip during Easter next year to Gauteng and we want to pop in there.

Is it still worth it these days?

Even if they pay me...I won't go....I doubt if you will find caravan equipment there. In the past there were very nice outdoor exhibits....also loved Campworld caravan exhibitions at Pta show. The 2 I like the most at the moment is the one at Gallagher estate during February and the Zwartkops one during end August...beginning September. I used to attend the Kyknet one at Mbizi which moved to Zondela last year....but with Diesel prices and toll fees its getting to expensive.

WAARSKUWING:

Kampeer is aansteeklik en verslawend 😁

The last time that place saw me was in +\- 1996/7.

Just the area where it is situated, is risky.

Definately, a No Go for me.

DK, I feel safer going there and FNB stadium at night than going to Ellis Park during the day

We sure experience the area like day and night. I myself never missed one Rand Easter show up to about 1998. Since then I've been there about 3 times and it has become like no event. As Geert said the Pretoria show used to be much better but I have also skipped it the last few years only because I did not see it advertised.

I can not imagine for it to be the same as in the glory days.

Hoekom moet ek nou R150-R200 p/p gaan betaal by die skou as dit bykans dieselfde vermaak is.

Nee wat, ek bly weg van die oorlopery van bywoners.

Ek voel dieselfde oor die Royal show hier by ons, was weet nie watter jaar laas daar nie. "Same old same old", en lekker duur ook verneem ek.

Nee dankie.

Was laas by die Rand se Paas skou in 2000. Het toe my tweede Penta daar gekoop.

Nooit weer nie.  Want toe al was daar meer beeldjies en goetertjies van hout en so aan wat hul noem Afrika Kunste.

Ek noem dit NKK.

Niks verder wat my daarna toe lok nie.

Everybody that says "NAY" seems to not have been to the show in the last 20 years, let me give you some more current info, since I actually went there twice in the last 5 years.

It is probably still worth the trip, especially if you have primary school kids and teenagers in your group.

There are still tons of people going, because of the entertainment value. The halls are still mostly like oversized flea markets, but at least in general the quality of what they sell is better. Definately not "china mall" quality. The people at the show  actually have money to spend on marketing. The halls do tend to vary in terms of how interesting the goods are, but you can quickly judge if the hall is worth it by looking at the size of the stands.... Small=Cheap.

I recall Jurgens/CI had their entire range at the show a couple of years back. I expect that all the new manufacturers will be present at the show/s now.

Last year there was a big exhibition by the SANDF, planes, tanks, cannons, field hospitals, about 3000sqm of exibitions on an outside area and a live mock attack with choppers, grippens and flashbangs(!WARNING, it is extremely loud!). Also one of the halls was almost entirely cars, classic cars and motorcycles, and another hall was like a museum of South African natural history. There was a fairly large fairground with rides etc which is too expensive for me, but also a circus a couple of years back which was free or pretty cheap and animal displays. Last year there was also a motorcycle trick riding exibition.

My summary/conclusion. Based on the shows I went to in the 80's and 90's there are now a lot less of halls filled with endless stalls and a lot more entertainment. Unless your idea of entertainment was to go look at your uncles showhorse competing ;-).

ITO of safety. You drive on the N1 until you get to the off-ramp. Turn towards the showground. Drive 500m down a big double lane road, and then turn left into the parking area of the showground (Parking is like R20). There are cops and metro cops along the entire way. Just because it was politically correct to claim FNB is "in soweto" for the soccer world cup doesn't mean it is actually in soweto. You're more likely to get hijacked going to Galagher estate or Ticketpro Dome.

Thank you for the feedback of a more recent visit.  It actually boils down to what each expect to see at the show.

None of the camping magazines made any mention of the exhibitions at this show so I suspect that camping exhibits is not very big there lately.

I usually get the camping kick that I need from the outdoor shows.
