Hi All.

We spent 3 nights at Addo ( 11 - 13th Apr 2019 ) and spent the first day fighting off hundreds of little caterpillars that have infested some of the trees in the camping area.
Unfortunately we had set up camp before they were noticeable. They crawled everywhere so I spent most of my time sweeping them up with a hand broom. We tried using Doom spray without success. They were coming through the stones from the nearby tree, so I spent quite a time  ( and to my wife"s amusement ) doing the Twist to try and squash them in the stones. The best solution eventually was to pour boiling water over and around the base of the tree - they died in their hundreds.
We were at campsite C7, and I met a camper who was at C6 and had been moved by the camp staff after he had complained about the worms. We also complained and were told that someone would come and investigate - no-one arrived.
It appears that a lot of the trees in the campsite have been infested with the worm and this will probably be an ongoing problem unless drastic action is undertaken by SANPARK.

I know crawlers vcan be creepy, but you are in a Game Park, where nature rules and your lifestyle comes second, it must breeding season and part of the food chain, so maybe its better you relocate and let nature be, just a suggestion and the best thing about a suggestion is that you dont have to take it

WAARSKUWING:

Kampeer is aansteeklik en verslawend 😁

The worms/caterpillars were only active in the daytime, so we closed all windows and the door when going on a game drive. When we got back I used a brush and skoppie to get them off - fortunately the boiling water helped to get rid of most of them so there were only a few by the second day.
I have contacted an honourary game ranger at Addo who is going to find out more details about these worms. It is the first he has heard of this and it is not a seasonal thing - hopefully they are not killing off the trees at the camp-site.
I will post his remarks here when I get them.

We are there next month. Read they go into whats called quiesence during winter which is like hibernation, so hope that is the situation. Will certainly ask the park supervisor if there is a problem when we get there.
